Carbohydrates

• Provides food energy

• Aid with brain & muscle functions

• 2 types– Simple (sugars)– Complex ( starches)

• Should make up 60% of diet

• Sources– Bread Pasta fruit vegetable candy etc.

Fats

• The body uses fat as fuel

• As nerve tissue

• To protect muscles

• There are different types of fat– Saturated fat– Unsaturated fats• Foods like donuts have lots of fat

Protein

• Protein is the main component– Body tissue– Muscle tissue

• Protein also• Helps muscle development Increases

strength• And improves athletic performance

• Foods with proteins are milk eggs cherries etc.

Fibre

• Fibre is indigestible carbohydrates• Foods with fibre beans peas, oat bran, • Types of fibre are soluble and insoluble • Soluble dissolve in water insoluble don't

dissolve• soluble foods are pectin, guar, gums,

mucilage• Insoluble foods are cellulose,

hemicelluloses, and lignin.

Vitamins

• There are different types of vitamins• Vitamin B C A D E K• Vitamins are essential for our bodies they• energize our metabolism • regulate our metabolism • help form blood clots when we bleed • enable cell growth • Help us see in colour

Minerals

• Kinds of minerals are• macro minerals and trace minerals• Macro minerals are• minerals your body needs in larger amounts.• They include calcium, phosphorus, magnesium,

sodium• Trace minerals• Are needed in small amounts• Include iron, copper, iodine, zinc and fluoride.

Water

• Replenishes electrolytes you burn with exercise.• facilitates the digestion process• Helps with the cells in your body• Water also helps• blood, lymph, saliva, cerebrospinal fluid,

intestinal juices,• gastric juices, and pancreatic juices• It stops you from being dehydrated• If your dehydrated for to long it can damage

Water 2

• stops you from being dehydrated this is

• loss of water and blood salts

• like potassium (K+) and sodium (Na+).

• If your dehydrated for to long it can damage– Your kidneys– Your brain – And your heart

Water 3

• Intravenous fluids (IVs) will quickly reverse dehydration

• There are different types of water– Tap Water– Table Water– Spring Water– Natural Health Water– Natural Mineral Water
