From the Principal’s Desk
November is a time of Remembrance. A time to reflect
on the peaceful lives that we all too often take for
granted. We will conduct a Remembrance Day
Ceremony on November 11 at 10:30. This will require
a slight change to our lunch times on this day. We will
begin our recess following the ceremony at 11:05, and
we will go for out recess at 11:10 and begin eating at
11:30 and return to classes at 11:50. Each student will
be given a poppy from the Royal Canadian Legion.
Donations to their Poppy Fund can be sent in to the
office any day next week if you would like to
contribute.
Welcome officially to some of our newest staff. We
welcome Ms. Sarah Kalbfleish who will assume the
FDKB teaching assignment on November 5, 2019.
Ms. Gyorgy has accepted a position of added
responsibility within the board.
We also welcome two new members in the FDKA.
Mrs. Campbell has assumed the permanent E.A.
position for the afternoon and Mrs. Montgomery has
assumed the ECE position.
Congratulations to our Cross Country runners and their
coaches Ms. Gyorgy and Mrs. Bertens on a great
season. One student advanced to the Thames Valley
finals. Congratulations to Ian K.
As the wintery Canadian weather arrives, clothing
needs to change. Please remember to put students’
names on the boots, coats, mitts etc. Early on, some
younger students struggle to identify the clothing they
came to school in.
Our School Council has organized a Pepperette
fundraiser. More information will follow. We have to
say a big thank you to the HOME DEPOT who donated
pumpkins to our school for decoration and then
displayed them in their store. Mrs. Gebel’s FDKA
class were the winners.

Lifetouch Photography will be back in our school on
Wednesday, November 20, 2019. If you wish to
have your child’s picture re-taken, return the
original picture package on this day.
Student Arrival at School
Students should not arrive at school prior to 8:45 a.m.
as there is no supervison. Please time your child’s walk
or drop-off so they will arrive between 8:45 and 9:00
a.m. If your child arrives after 9:00, they MUST report to
the office before going to class. All students should
make their way to the rear year upon arrival, with their
belongings, to enter with their class at the bell. Students
should not be in the halls or at their cubbies prior to the
morning bell. Please meet your child at their dismissal
door at 3:30 p.m.
Exciting November from the LEAD team!
On November 14th we will be having 50's themed
day! Break out your poodle skirts and
slick back your hair to help celebrate
the fiftieth day of school!
From November 18th -21st we will be hosting our
annual MOVEMBER fundraiser. For just a toonie,
students will be able to purchase a fuzzy
moustache and can have their picture taken in the
photo booth. All proceeds go directly to the
MOVEMBER foundation to help support men's
physical and mental well being. Check out
ca.movember.com for more info or you can find
them on Facebook or Twitter.
Popcorn Dayz is back November 26th and 27th!!
We are selling KERNELS popcorn for $2 a bag. This
delicious popcorn comes preseasoned with
buttersalt. All proceeds raised will be put towards
student initiatives at OS.
P.A. DAY – Friday, November 15, 2019 Parent Interview Day – No school for students Progress Reports First term progress reports will come home on Friday, November 8th. All students will receive a report indicating how well they have settled into learning in their class. No grades are applied at this time as it is about progress, not achievement. Parents are encouraged to read the report closely and talk about the report with their student(s). Interviews will follow on November 15th. Please return the Report Card Envelope and the parent/student return slip as soon as possible. The envelopes are kept and re-used for each term’s report cards. Parent/Teacher Interviews Following the release of the progress reports, parents and teachers will have an opportunity to sit together and discuss results on Friday, November 15th. Parents and/or teachers may request an interview. Every effort will be made to accommodate schedules. Interviews can also take place by phone if that works better. Classroom teachers will send home specific information regarding available times.
