• One-to-one tutoring by trained volunteers to

elementary school children during school hours

• We provide early intervention to students

identified by their teachers as struggling readers

• Each student spends 30 minutes at least twice a

• 66 schools in Vancouver, 10 in North

Vancouver, 6 in Burnaby

• Benefitting 1,300+ students per year

• 325+ volunteer tutors

• Celebrated 25th anniversary

Program Growth

Classroom teachers:

• 86% improvement in reading level,

comprehension and attitude

• 83% improvement in general confidence

Volunteers:

• 100% agreed “I enjoy participating in the

ONE TO ONE tutoring program”

Plans for Growth

• 19 year history of sister-program running in

communities in Okanagan, Columbia, and

Kootenay region

ONE TO ONE Outside the Vancouver area

• “Grey-area” students, selected by teaching

staff, according to criteria

• Structured 30-minute sessions with a

trained tutor, 2-4 times/week, during school

hours

• Focus on reading strategy, comprehension,

and making reading enjoyable

tutors to communicate progress

What is the ONE TO ONE Program?

Objective:

• To provide a special series of levelled

books to all participating schools ($750

per)

• 120 books over 21 levels (Grades 1 – 3)

• Fiction and non-fiction; wide variety of

titles

• Works with the District Coordinator to ensure a successful

set up, implementation, and long-term

• Provides all resources, training, guidance, and ongoing

• Sets up and delivers the program in the community with

1. ONE TO ONE Program Package – One time cost

• District Coordinator’s manual

• Print-ready electronic copies of all files needed to print

2. Training – One time cost

• In-person training

• Set up the program in the community and pilot schools.

• Train the trainers

$500 plus travel expenses

• Includes 120 reading books DRA levels 4-24

$750 one-time cost

2. Printed materials

• ONE TO ONE will provide all print-ready materials. This is the

approximate cost of printing these materials and other

supplies that may be required.

* Costs to individual schools are approximate and subject to change.
