Onsite Installation of Sandpit

The sandpit can be installed onsite by digging the base into the ground. The steps to install the sandpit are outlined below.

1. Choose a location for your sandpit. Ideally somewhere where the slope of the ground is minimal and is clear from trees and tree roots etc. Peg the inside corners of the sandpit.

2. Remove the sandpit and cut down into the soil approximately 200mm between pegs.

3. Remove pegs and soil to an approximate depth of 200mm, ideally so the cut surface is level in each direction. Obviously more cut will result on one side if the ground is sloping.

4. Replace sandpit. Possibly cut soil beneath walls of sandpit where necessary to allow sandpit to ideally lay level in each direction.

5. Attach polythene to the inside wall of the sandpit. Ideally use 250 micron (heavy duty) polythene and attach with staple gun using stainless steel staples. This will allow the sand to be delineated from the underlying soil.

6. Punch holes in the polythene to allow for drainage.

7. Fill with sand. Coarse sand is the best as it doesn’t so readily stick to skin and doesn’t blow in the wind. Fill to a level 2 to 3 inches below the sandpit lip. For a standard size sandpit approximately 450 litres (half a trailer load) of sand is required. Place lid on sandpit. Refill soil where necessary and re-grass where necessary.
