A warm welcome to Open Studios 2017

Another year, another amazing opportunity! We all like to think that where we live is unique, special and frankly, better than everywhere else. Well, I definitely think that.

For one reason, so many creative people live here. I represent the writers, but I love and support the artists. I often tell myself and others that I mustn’t buy any more art but somehow, I keep doing it. There is no rule that says you can’t hang pictures at skirting board height, after all.

So let me encourage you to follow the Open Studio trail. It’s not just about the art, it’s about the artists, where they live and create and where they get their inspiration from. Which often leads us back to Stroud, and the Five Valleys it inhabits.

Really, you won’t regret it.

Katie Fforde, writer

The Art of Food

Look out for a great selection of bakes, both sweet and savoury in some of the Open Studios this year.

Take pictures of the Art and Food and post them up online to vote for your favourites in our Open Studios Bake Off Instagram special feed.

Little is known of the history

of Piccadilly Mill, although it is

believed to have been occupied

by a wool shawl manufacturer

during the later part of the

nineteenth century. Today, the

site consists of two brick-built

mills both constructed during the

mid-nineteenth century, occupied

by artist studios and small

workshops.
