WEEKLY PORT CALLS

Maritime connectivity: first & last port of call (cash-flow) advantage

51

Port of Antwerp is of the 10 loops USA<> Europe✓ 5 times 1st port of call and ✓ 2 times last port of call.Rotterdam has less loops to and from the US and less first or last Port of call options.

3. Customs procedures: the cash-flow advantage

Customs

Fast and efficient pre-clearing processCustoms clearance before arrival at the port

Port of Antwerp,a few customs clearance options: cash-flow optimization

55

Fiscal representation Transit procedure Bonded Customs Warehouse

No need for VAT pre-financing by your company at time of import (this is a unique Belgian concept)

Deferral of customs clearance to the final destination.

Avoid pre-financing of customs duties and VAT. Customs duties and VAT to be deferred to the time of delivery/sales of the goods

In case of delivery within Belgium:VAT becomes an accounting transaction for your next VAT declaration. For delivery within Europe but outside Belgium:VAT will be deferred to the VAT account of the receiving party.

Goods can be transported from the port to a location in the European hinterland under customs supervision with Transit document.Upon arrival at the location in the hinterland:Options: After Customs declaration:✓ Free circulation of the goods✓ Bonded customs warehouse✓ Inward processing

Goods can be exchanged between ‘bonded warehouses’ in Antwerp and the European hinterland.• Storage unlimited in timeFast:• Fully electronic process• Physical stop at customs is not required. For whomInternational shippers, traders and distributors looking for flexible storage of goods.Especially when the final destination of the goods is not known yet.

Port of Antwerp,a few customs clearance options: cash-flow optimization

56

Inward Processingcost-efficiency in the logistics chain

Extended Gatecost-efficiency through saving time

Raw materials, semi-finished products or components for the EU-market can be processed into a finished product under suspension of customs duties.

Goods for re-export can be repaired, processed or assembled under suspension of VAT or customs duties.

This procedure enables companies to defer all customs formalities to an inland terminal or warehouse of the consignee.

For whom:International shippers and producers looking for repairing, processing or assembling possibilities

In this way, your goods in the port can immediately be transhipped to a train or barge without being hindered by borders, formalities, inspections or other operational obstacles.

COVID-19 : the bottom-line

Risk analysis in the supply chain will prevail resulting in:

• Globalization under scrutiny

• Reshoring and near-shoring of activities

• “Just-in-time” combined with a “just in case we need an item now”. So combination of a regional back-up distribution and just-in-time

• All this heavily supported by digitalization for more visibility, transparency and efficiencies

• Growing e-commerce business and last mile operators (fulfilment)

• Back-up distribution centers instead of one European master location.

• Risk analysis: what if trucking borders are congested or closed due to disaster or pandemic? Increased modal shift. More barges and rail. Port of Antwerp is the leader in this.

• Data sharing and more data sharing: please have a look at our data sharing platform NxtPort. www.nxtport.com
