OUR MISSION
hen children have no place to call home and
important resources are absent in their lives,
their futures can be severely limited. That’s
why time is of the essence in our mission.
In 2016, we renewed our commitment to help the
increased number of homeless families in our community,
do it quickly, and do it in a way that allows them to
never become homeless again! We meet emergency
needs (food, shelter, clothing) immediately. Staying at
our volunteer congregations, they begin to feel the
support, chart their futures and dare to hope. Working
with our case managers, they begin looking for housing
and employment within just a few weeks, even days.
This amazing support is possible because of YOU -
hundreds of open hearts and helping hands who give
their best. Barriers are broken, strangers become
friends. A small child finds an empty lap and hears a
comforting story. A mom finds a smiling face willing to
help her figure out a realistic budget. At the heart of
Family Promise is community, basic comfort, compassion
and hope. These are the fundamental components of
hospitality. Family Promise of Greater Orlando is known
for its welcoming, safe, family shelter and for working
to promote family stability and housing retention.
Thank you for the hundreds of lives you have touched
through Family Promise!
“One in 50 families in Central Florida, and one in 17 children will experience
homelessness during the course of a year.” These startling facts were released
in a study commissioned by the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness.
We have been efficient in the use of the resources you
provide. Eighty-three percent of every dollar donated is
returned to homeless families through emergency shelter
and housing programs that help them secure homes
and remain in them. Our partnerships with 26 congre-
gations and over 600 volunteers enable us to keep our
overhead focused on core operations and to make the
most of our infrastructure. Our No Place Like Home
breakfast event in October 2016 was an amazing
success, giving us sustainable resources to expand our
services in 2017 and plan for the future. By employing
only the best practices and being good stewards of
donor dollars, we can help even more families.
Thank you for believing in Family Promise and the
families we serve. Your investment helps families move
from homelessness toward hope, something every
child deserves. There is truly no place like home!

Program Manager Spotlight: Asoye Uhurubey
I absolutely believe that my work as Program Manager for Family Promise is fulfillment of one of my life’s purposes. As a human services professional who has experienced homelessness in thecontinuum I serve, I can relate to, and understand the barriers that our clients face. As a child, I believed that mychurch was my safe-haven. A place where I could seek guidance, motivation, and spiritual fulfillment from a higherpower. And today, I still work with that same idea in mind as I manage the relationship between Family Promise, ourcommunity partners, and local providers.
Our organization is a truly unique one. Through our Rapid Rehousing Program, we guide, motivate and inspire ourclients to life beyond the crisis. The Rapid Rehousing Program enables us to house clients first and then provide thecase management services once they are stably housed. We actively engage with our clients and provide them withthe tools that they need to maintain life after the crisis. Our case management team acts as advocates, providingconsistent services in a transparent process through community collaboration. I am extremely proud to be a part ofthis movement and know that this incarnation of myself is a part of the divine plan and it’s the objective for my life.

Volunteer Spotlight: Heather Godwin
I was looking to expose my children to a world outside of their “bubble.” Like many, I recognizedthat homelessness was an epidemic, but until my kids and I started volunteering for Family Promise through ourchurch, I honestly had no idea just how much it impacted our area. I currently serve as the volunteer coordinator forthe Family Promise Congregational Shelter Program at First United Methodist Church of Winter Park. The CongregationalShelter Program provides safe shelter, meals and hospitality in congregations throughout Central Florida.
Over the years, I’ve seen countless families who have been impacted by homelessness. In many cases, both adultsand children alike come through the congregation scared and afraid, mentally exhausted, hungry, and weary fromtheir various life experiences. And it is for this reason, that I work hard (alongside many other church volunteers) tohelp create an environment of comfort, safety, and solace for these families who have been faced with adversity. I find that my greatest reward is to have found a cause and organization like Family Promise that allows me not onlyto serve, but also to be able to see the outcome of those efforts when our clients become independent again.
Client Spotlight: Lecette
After relocating to Florida from the Caribbean, I was very enthusiastic about a fresh start.I am a single mother of three and worked as a registered nurse. But, once we arrived into the U.S., I soon learnedthat my nursing education and certification was non-transferrable, therefore I would have to start from the bottom to regain my previous status. After months of retraining, and then a loss of income, our family became homeless. I turned to Family Promise to help us stabilize and regain self-sufficiency. Through wonderful support, case management and community services, I am now proud to say that we are stable again and in permanent housing. I am truly thankful for the support of Family Promise. The case managers helped my family regain our independence.H

The Partners in Housing ProgramFamily Promise purchases manufactured homes, renovates them
and provides housing for homeless families. Families must pay the
utilities and the lot fees as well as participate in case management
for one year, and then Family Promise will grant them the title to
the home. In 2016, we assisted three families in this program.
Grand Opening EventFamily Promise hosted a Grand Opening Event to show off our
new Day Center and staff offices. The Community of Christ Church
graciously donated this space to us.

The Event That Fueled Our GrowthThe 2016 No Place Like Home Breakfast gathered nearly 300
attendees, supporters and donors to celebrate the work of
Family Promise in our community. This fundraising breakfast
raised over $180,000 in gifts and pledges. These unrestricted
funds are invaluable as Family Promise seeks to increase the
services we provide to homeless families. We are thankful to
the many individuals who heard about the importance of our
work and responded with stunning generosity.

Board Member JIM MOYEFor me, it’s all about the children. My wife, Mari and Iare passionate about helpingfamilies and children in need.
I became involved with FamilyPromise almost seven yearsago. My business was seekinga local organization to helpsupport during the holiday sea-son. And, after learning moreabout Family Promise, I knewthat this was a group that I
wanted to get behind, and to the best of my abilities, help growinto something even more substantial.
Several families who have been through the program have impacted me. I fondly recall Kat and her children, and the look ontheir faces as they walked into their newly furnished apartment for the very first time. I never tire of seeing the joy and exhilaration on the faces of the young children who after weeks or months ofhomelessness, can finally rest their eyes on a place to call home.
I strive to be an advocate in our community, and work toward the greater goal of moving families from homelessness to stablehousing. I’m thrilled to watch the growth of Family Promise in the Greater Orlando area, and through continued work and volunteerism, look forward to spreading the message even furtherand seeing this organization grow beyond its current borders.
