Case StudyThe Super Market Case
The Scenario
Ankit joined as the new Store Manager

All above 42 years of age.
Worked for over 10 yrs with familiar routines .
Cntd..
Then one full time stocker Annie retired and was replaced by Amrita ,a young lady who had just left college.
Pushpa and Annie had worked for 25 yrs and were very close.
Pushpa had to train Amrita but no formal training and induction programme
The first few months …......
Everything seemed well
Amrita was very enthusiastic about her work
Customers were happy to see a new face.
Later On……..
Amrita started absenting on various occasions in a month.
Unfinished work and uninterested
Customers started complaining
Pushpa started complaining that Amrita was not the right match
Cntd….
Amrita was not mixing with others
Ankit talked to Amrita but still matters did not improve
Ankit thought of taking disciplinary action
But one of the cash counter handler told that even others were not cooperating
Amrita’s Story

Pushpa was strict but helpful
Amrita started making some changes in the way files and stocks were handled

The Conflict Process
Minimizing the conflict
Ankit Could have anticipated the conflictPushpa was used to working with Annie and she was likely to feel apprehensiveAnkit’s assumption that team would integrate well…Some intervention to help members readjust
Minimizing the conflict (Contd….)
Ankit could have talked with Pushpa what could have gone well or wrong and prepared action plan beforehand.More Structured induction and Training ProgramRegular Review meeting
Minimizing the conflict(Contd….)
When Amrita’s behavior started changing, Ankit should have intervened
Ankit should have helped others focus on Goals
Remember !!
An ‘APPLE’ a day can keep conflict at bay !
A nticipate - that conflict is likelyP redict - the potential sources of conflict and tensionP lan - ways of avoiding the risk of conflictL ook - actively at the situation as it unfoldsE valuate - the health of the relationships and any further interventions necessary
