PROGRAMME
In recent years, the
Republic of Cabo Verde
has developed into an
important location for
international marine
research. On and off the
islands, European and
international partners
operate observatories for
ocean and atmospheric
research.
Against this background, and with a view to make the most out of the many ongoing activities that have emerged in Cabo Verde through EU funded projects and bilateral initiatives with EU Mem-ber States, a high-level event Our Atlantic Ocean for Growth and Well-Being will take place on 21-22 November 2018 in Mindelo on the Island of São Vicente, Cabo Verde. The event will be hosted at the Ocean Science Centre Mind-elo in partnership with the GEO-MAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany and the National Institute for Fisheries Development INDP, Cabo Verde.
On the invitation of H.E. Ulisses Correia e Silva, Prime Minister of Cabo Verde, H.E. Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Re-search, Science and Innovation will visit Cabo Verde and co-sign a Cooperation Arrangement on Marine Research and Innova-tion Cooperation on behalf of the European Commission with
H.E. Olavo Correia, Deputy Prime Minister of Cabo Verde on behalf of the Government of Cabo Verde. This new framework recognises and stimulates marine research as a top priority for our interna-tional cooperation.
Throughout the course of the event, participants will enjoy a series of plenary sessions, panel discussions, projects and national initiatives, including an inspi-rational address from H.E. Lisa Emelia Svennson, Ambassador for Oceans, Sea and Freshwater, Director & Coordinator Marine and Coastal Ecosystems Branch, United Nations Environment Programme.
The Government of Cabo Verde is organising the Cabo Verde Ocean Week from 19 - 23 No-vember; an international series of events with key stakehold-ers dedicated to promoting Blue Growth to coincide with the Commissioner´s visit.
