ABRAHAMIC PEACE TOUR TO THE HOLY LAND
July 30 to August 9, 2018
Deadline to register March 30, 2018
Jews, Muslims and Christians all trace their roots back
to a man of faith who heard God’s call, who journeyed
from home in confidence that God had a mission for
him and whose faithfulness to that mission still im-
pacts the world today. Join a group of Abraham’s de-
scendents - Jews, Muslims and Christians - as they
travel to the land called holy by all his descendants.
There we will dialogue with and learn from leaders of
all three religions who are working for peace. Like
Abraham, God is calling us to journey from home and
embrace a mission - a mission of interfaith peace that
our communities, society and world desperately needs
us to embrace. Like our spiritual ancestor Abraham,
we too can change the world.
Father Corey Brost is one of the founders of Children
of Abraham Coalition, a coalition of Muslims, Jews
and Christians in the Chicago area that has been work-
ing for interfaith peace for six years.
If you are interested in joining this trip, please con-
tact Deacon Mike Madison at 708-259-2814 for
more information or visit the web site below.

ANNUAL BLOOD DRIVE ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2018
Our Lady of the Wayside parishioners brave the snowy
weather last Sunday to participate in the annual Emily
Holum blood drive. More than 60 volunteers donated
blood to Life Source in memory of the late OLW parish
youngster who fought AML for two years - from the
age of four through six. OLW parishioners were fre-
quent donors to Emily when she needed blood to fight
her battle.
Snow and cold didn’t keep Wayside parishioners
from donating perishable food to the monthly
St. Mark’s Food Drive. St. Mark’s in Chicago is
Wayside’s “Sharing Parish.” Donations may be made
in a “drop-off bin” outside the Gathering Place.
OLW Deacon Don Grossnickle discussed his current
effort on behalf of the fight against malaria in Uganda at
Sunday Masses at OLW on February 11. He displayed a
sonogram similar to the equipment he is working to
bring to Uganda in April.
ST. MARK’S FOOD DRIVE
DEACON DON GROSSNICKLE Equipment He Plans To Take To Uganda
BELL CHOIR GROUP
Wayside’s highly-acclaimed Bell Choir, under the di-
rection of Music Director Dan McMahon, provided
accompaniment for the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday,
February 11. The “Bells” participate in at least one
Mass each month, at various times.

CHURCH REPAIR-PROJECT NEARS HALF-WAY POINT;
ON-TIME COMPLETION STILL IN SIGHT
It’s hard to believe but the OLW church repair project is nearing the half-way point and thus far, it remains on
schedule.
During the past ten days, workers have begun some of the “first coat” painting of the ceilings that are not cov-
ered by wood (the lobbies, cry room, sacristies, etc.)
And early this past week, painters began painting some of the decorative trim that marks the arch over the sanc-
tuary. Parishioners will notice a more dramatic trim color - dark blue - when they see it in person. Photos in the
Bulletin and on-line do not adequately highlight the change.
Another “painting” project involved one lonely worker who sprayed blue paint on the now-bare concrete floor in
the church. His job was to locate the heating cables that are under the floor and mark them so that floor and pew
installers will know where “not” to drive nails or screws.
So as of early this week (February 14), the project is on time and on target for completion.
Repairs to Our Lady of the Wayside Church continued on schedule this past week as workmen began applying
new paint to the walls of the church. Slightly different “accent” colors will be obvious to parishioners when the
church is re-opened at the end of March.
