OUR WELLNESS JOURNEY

Lee Strehlow, HR & Office Services Director

Presented by…

Department of Retirement Systems

WELLNESS ACTIVITIES

Built around a handful of wellness routines that were well ingrained in the agency culture:

•Annual Flu Shots available at work •Policy that provided smoking cessation financial assistance ($75)•Annual on-site blood pressure checks•Spring and Fall Cleaning months •Active safety committee with a high interest in taking on wellness activities.

SUPPORTIVE LEADERSHIP• Our director at the time wanted us to

make sure employees had access to information, but to not be aggressive in our approach to wellness.

• Just in Time Information

• All of Leadership Team participates in events and gives their time and support to the initiatives.

• Executive Sponsors on S&W Committee

RAISING AWARENESS

• As our team members were impacted by health issues we often built an event around a topic we had been deeply touched by.

• One woman team member suffered silent heart attacks and died as a result – the next Wear Red for Women month celebration was in her honor and participation greatly increased.

RAISING AWARENESSAnother team member experienced breast cancer.

She expressed an interest in putting together a “Making Strides” cancer walk group to participate in the October American Cancer Association event in Tacoma, WA.

She partnered with Safety and Wellness and the agency provided time and support to the team, who raised over $2,700!
