BUILT IN RELIABILITY
The first and most reliable electrode design for Nickel Cadmium batteries is the pocket plate construction. Active materials are encapsulated between folded steel strip which are perforated from both sides. This double perforated pattern gives the plate an effective surface area 30% greater than what was previously attainable. Maximum effective area means maximum load capabilities. These strips are housed in a steel frame. The alkaline electrolyte filled-in reacts only with the plate and not with the steel structure, thereby eliminating the chance of internal mechanical failure. Hence, the battery is strong enough to withstand virtually any shock
The pocket plate group separators are made of a wear resistant polypropylene / ABS material which is chemically inert. The SBS power systems Ltd's cells are available in containers of polypropylene. The polypropylene container can withstand mechanical stresses, shocks and vibrations. It performs in temperature extremes without losing strength, insulates well, resists corrosion. Furthermore, the translucent nature of polypropylene allows visual check of electrolyte level for ease in maintenance.

ELECTRICAL PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS
CHARGING
These batteries can be charged by any known method and available charger like taper charger, constant current charger,
A dual mode charger which will recharge a discharged battery at constant current and high voltage boost mode and
then bring it to constant potential float mode at low voltage to keep the battery in fully charged condition, is ideal to get
constant voltage charger, float or trickle charger.

However, if single mode charger is already available, like in old systems or in locomotives, the battery can be operated
with constant voltage charging.
Recommended Charging voltage setting: 1.45 to 1.50V / Cell.
DISCHARGE PERFORMANCE
The rated AH capacity of a nickel cadmium battery is defined as the Ampere Hours available at 5 hour rate of discharge o
to 1.00V/Cell end voltage at 20 C after charging at constant current of 0.2C rate for 8 hours.5
However, the performance or the actual AH available from particular cell type depends on the rate of discharge, cell end
voltage, temperature, type of charging, state of charge, etc.
The discharge performance table in this document gives the amperes available for the cell type for different durations and
cell end voltages. These data are true for standard charge of constant at 0.2C rate for 8 hours, rest and temperature 5
conditions and for new cells.
If the actual conditions differ from standard, the expected performance will be different. Our application engineering
department will provide the details and further help you in selecting the optimum battery type for your requirement.
Nickel Cadmium pocket plate batteries are the most reliable and rugged batteries available today. They can withstand to a
great extent any type of abuse like overcharge, deep discharge, even accidental reverse charge and can be stored in any
state of charge.

For safe and reliable operation, batteries should be mounted on suitable battery rack or in battery cabinets. SBS battrey racks are made of steel sections with spray or powder coating which are available in configuration, such as 1- 2- 3- & 4- step racks in both single and two tier arrangements. Normal racks are easily assembled on site. For special requirements of battery racks contact us.

3 B31 &B32, B41&B42 are to be arranged lengthwise. Where as other Block Types are to be arranged crosswise.

Calculation for length of the rack :(Rack length to be rounded off to the next multiple of 100)
Length of the rack for row wise mounting :(Length of cell/block + .2 in.) x (no. of cells/blocks per row)
Length of the rack for crosswise mounting :(Width of cell + .2 in.) x (no. of cells per row)
STANDARD ACCESSORIES Each battery will be supplied with a suitable rack and other accessories required for its installation and regular maintenance.
