General NoticeGeneral Notice to Control Noxious Weeds

The Kansas Noxious Weed Law K.S.A. 2-1314 et seq. requires all persons who own or supervise land in Kansas to control and eradi-cate all weeds declared noxious by legislative action. The weeds declared noxious are: FIELD BINDWEED, MUSK THISTLE, JOHNSON GRASS, SERICEA LESPEDEZA, BUR RAGWEED, CANADA THISTLE, LEAFY SPURGE, HOARY CRESS, QUACK GRASS, RUSSIAN KNAPWEED, KUDZU AND PIGNUT. Notice is hereby given pursuant to the Kansas Noxious Weed Law to ev-ery person who owns or supervises land in Jefferson County that noxious weeds growing or found on such land shall be controlled and eradicated. Control is defined as preventing the production of viable seed and the vegetative spread of the plant. Failure to observe this notice may result in Jefferson County: 1. Serving a legal notice requiring control of the noxious weeds within a minimum of five days. Failure to control the noxious weeds within the time period allowed may result in the county treating the noxious weeds at the landowners expense and placing a lien on the property if the bill is not paid within 30 days or, 2. Filing criminal charges for non-compliance. Conviction for non-compliance may result in a fine of $100 per day of non-com-pliance with a maximum fine of $1500. The public is also hereby notified that it is a violation of the Kansas Noxious Weed Law to barter, sell or give away infested nursery stock or livestock feed unless the feed is fed on the farm where grown or sold to a commercial processor that will destroy the viability of the noxious weed seed. Custom harvesting machines must be labeled with a label provided by the Kansas Department of Agriculture and must be free of all weed seed and litter when entering the County/State and when leaving a field infested with noxious weeds. County noxious weed officials shall have at all reasonable times, free access to enter upon premises and to inspect property, both real and personal, regardless of location, in connection with the administration of the Kansas Noxious Weed Law. County 4-H newsProsperity 4-H Club The Prosperity 4-H Club was called to order Feb. 17 by Cole Gier, junior president, with 26 members and two leaders pres-ent. Natasha Lloyd, parliamen-tarian, introduced herself. The club will pay for county T-shirts for members and lead-ers. Members chose to do Bingo at the carnival. Members were reminded to complete their Youth for the Quality Care of Animals online program. Members and parents were asked to sign up for fair committees. Acknowledgment was given to all who partici-pated in Club Day. A project talk was given by Kinsey Beecham about hogs and Jayden Herrman about shooting sports. A group talk was given by members enrolled in the swine project. The Boot game was played by all. The next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. March 17. AG to provide free document destruction The Attorney General’s Of-fice will mark National Con-sumer Protection Week with free document destruction events throughout the state, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt reported last week. “Our office works hard year-round to protect consumers,” Schmidt said. “Next week, we will place a particular focus on helping Kansans protect them-selves from identity theft and stay safe from scams.” The office will sponsor free document destruction at eight locations throughout the state through March 9, which is Na-tional Consumer Protection Week. Securely shredding per-sonal documents is an impor-tant step toward preventing identity theft. One of the events still avail-able is as follows: —Saturday, March 9, 9 a.m. to noon, Judicial Center, S.W. 12th St. and Van Buren, To-peka. Consumers are asked to limit their documents for destruction to three small bags or boxes. Documents will be securely transported to the shredding facility for safe destruction by certified shredding companies.
