Ethanol Cars

• Description – Ethanol is a biofuel alternative to gasoline made form the conversion of carbon-based feedstock, such as corn, sorghum, potatoes, wheat or sugar cane.

Not my corn car

Pros and cons for Ethanol fuel

Pros:• Ethanol burns cleaner that fossil fuels• The price of a gallon of pure ethanol is comparable

to the price of a gallon of gasoline.• Corn farmers can make more money.• Corn is processed into ethanol, so more factories

have to be built, which means more jobs.• The plants that ethanol is made from also take

carbon dioxide from the air.

Pros (cont.)

• Ethanol is made from corn, soybeans, and few other vegetables. These are all renewable resources.

• Using ethanol results in less greenhouse gases, which slows down global warming.

Cons of ethanol fuel

Cons:• The price of items that have corn in them will

rise because of the demand of more ethanol.• Other crops will grow less because of the need

form corn and other ethanol-producing plants.• More land will be cleared for farming.• If there is a drought, there will be a fuel

shortage.

Solar Cars

• Description – A solar vehicle is a vehicle powered by a type of renewable energy, by solar energy obtained from solar panels on the surface.

Not my sun car

Pros and cons of Solar cars

Pros:• Solar cars are extremely energy efficient• They produce no emissions• They are very quiet• They require no fuel

Cons of Solar cars

Cons:• They are totally dependant on the sun• Their entire top surface is required for solar

cells• Powering the vehicle leaves no power for

luxuries like air-conditioning

Hybrid cars

• Description – A hybrid vehicle is a vehicle that uses two or more distinct power sources to move the vehicle.

Pros and cons of Hybrid cars

Pros:• Hybrid cars have better gas mileage – they take

you twice as far as the conventional vehicle for every gallon of fuel.

• You’ll save a lot more money in the long-run. With hybrids, you will save approximately $2,300 over a ten year period.

• Hybrids are more fuel efficient and better for the environment.

Pros (cont.)

• Regular maintenance and repairs are just like getting a normal car fixed. They have many of the same parts as normal cars and can be serviced by any qualified mechanic.

Cons of hybrid cars

Cons:• In reality, the mileage is 10% less that what

the tag claims.• The cost of hybrid cars range form $19,000 to

$25,000 compared to other cars.• Regular maintenance and repairs are no

problem, but hybrids have unique problems of their own.
