Pastor: Very Rev. James A. Ebert Parochial Vicar: Rev. Kyle M. Eads
ST. MARIANNE COPE (JANUARY 23): As a leader in her
community, Mother Marianne was instrumental in opening two of
the first Catholic Hospitals in Central New York: St. Elizabeth in
Utica and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse. Recognizing the
need for basic health care in a city of immigrants, she and a small
group of women defied convention by purchasing a saloon in
Syracuse, New York and transforming it into a hospital to serve
the needs of a diverse community. Here they welcomed everyone
and provided the same quality of care regardless of race, ethnici-
ty, religion, or economic means. They pioneered rules of patient’s
rights and cleanliness practices not seen before in the United
States. And this was just the beginning. Throughout upstate New
York, Mother Marianne and her growing community educated and
provided healthcare to children and adults with dignity and com-
passion for all. Please visit www.saintmariann.org to learn more
about her transformative work with leper in Hawaii. Her shrine
and remains are located in Syracuse, NY.

THANK YOU FAMILY PROMISE VOLUNTEERS!: During

, our Parish Center served as a
temporary home where Mater Christi Family Promise provided
meals, companionship and overnight shelter for a homeless
family with a two-year-old boy. Thank you to over sixty
volunteers who gave so generously of their time during this very
busy holiday week by setting up and breaking down the living
space, organizing supplies, doing laundry, making breakfast or
dinner, acting as evening hosts and staying overnight with our
guests - we couldn’t have done it without each and every one of
you! New volunteers are always welcome! For more

THANK YOU ADVENT GIVING TREE PARTICIPANTS:
We are grateful to the many parishioners who participated in
our annual Advent Giving Tree. Through your generosity, we
were able to help numerous less fortunate people as follows:
$1,635.00 was collected and sent to Koinonia Primary
Care (led by Dr. Bob Paeglow) to help cover fees for
uninsured people seeking medical and mental health care
at this faith-based clinic in Albany’s West Hill
neighborhood.
Four large bags of warm adult socks were donated to
Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls to be used
in their Christmas basket program for elderly and disabled
shut-ins.
Hundreds of refugees and new American Citizens living in
Albany received Christmas gifts. Most of the families are
from Burma/Myanmar, where they escaped an ethnic
cleansing by the Burmese military. Living in refugee
camps in Thailand and Malaysia, these families were
relocated to Albany by a joint effort of the UN and non-
government agencies in the US, including Catholic
Charities and the United States Committee for Refugees
and Immigrants.
Special thanks to Laura Amedio and Bishop Maginn students
for their assistance with this project!

In Memoriam
During Catholic Schools week, we are reflecting on the mission
of MCS and the mission of all Catholic Schools. Our week will
focus on our specific mission as outlined in our mission state-
ment:
Mater Christi School,
a Catholic community
guided by the teachings of Jesus,
is dedicated to the development of
Spirituality, Community and Scholarship.
We seek to enhance each child’s God-given gifts
so that they may use those talents
for service to God and others
A Catholic Community – We will be honoring, thanking and
celebrating Liturgy with our Catholic community during Catholic
Schools Week beginning at the Cathedral of the Immaculate
Conception at 2:00 PM. January 26, 2020! We are pleased to
share the good news that Ms. Walsh will be receiving the St.
John Neumann award! The Neumann Award recognizes indi-
viduals who have demonstrated a commitment to Catholic
school education. The award gives public acknowledgement to
service to Catholic schools, demonstrated through personal
characteristics of zeal, support, enthusiasm, purpose and self-
less generosity in the spirit of St. John Neumann.
We will be joining our daily Mass parishioners on Wednesday
and the second, third and eight graders will be distributing
thank you cards at the Parish Breakfast on Thursday morning
after Mass. We are grateful to our PTO parents for providing
the Parish Breakfast!
Finally, we will have a special Mass of Thanksgiving for our
parishioners on February 1st at the 4:00 PM Mass. (Saturday)
Our students will be a vital part of the parish ministries of choir,
altar servers, presentation of the gifts, sign of peace, ushers,
lectors, prayer of the faithful and the opening procession. After
the Mass, Parishioners will be invited to an Open House of
their own. Please join us for a tour of the school and some re-
freshments in the cafeteria. All this to say, “Thank You” to our
special parish community for your support and especially for
our renovated heating and school improvements over the Sum-
mer.
CHRISTMAS BONUS RAFFLE: Our Christmas Bonus Raf-
fle was a great success! Thank you to everyone who support-
ed our first major fundraiser by buying a ticket and/or encour-
aging your family and friends to buy one too. The winners were
chosen at the parish Breakfast (for Dinner) with Santa event on
Saturday, December 14th. They were: $5000–Kristin Liuzzi,
$1000–Chuck Cronin, and $500–Jeremiah Kutey. The total
net profit for this fundraiser was just over $6000. Thank you!

JANUARY AT MATER CHRISTI SCHOOL: January begins
with the celebration of a New Year and for us at MCS, ends with
our Catholic Schools Week! It’s exhilarating to be rejoicing in new-
ness, second chances, and new life. These are constant themes
in our Church calendar as well. We rejoice in the birth of Jesus
and the new life brought to all of creation – blessed and loved by
God. We are offered and can offer fresh starts and healing to
those we have offended and to those who have offended us in
anyway.
