Get Inspired, Involved and

Informed

Paul Zeller

Learning about my rights

I went to a workshop run by IDRS.

I learnt about my rights and speaking up about my rights.

We set up our own self advocacy group

SOUTH EAST SELF

ADVOCACY(SESA)

I did some leadership training ….

Our Social Change Project

I started going to Conferences…..

Here I am at the first National Conference about the NDIS. I met Jenny Macklin

While we were in Melbourne we went to

the footy.

That’s a good thing about going to

conferences – you get to do things you don’t

do at home.

I met advocates from Speak Out Tasmania…

And then I went to Hobart for their State Conference.

We organised a Conference : Finding Your Voice

I was the MC : It was an important job.

Everyone had a chance to get involved

In the evening we

had a dinner and live music.

I sang a U2 song.

Our organising committee and keynote speaker

We had lots of

different presenters

.

Nathan shared his PATH plan with us

I started to be more confident about speaking up at meetings and forums….

At a public forum with

Dr Mike Kelly

Our group started presenting self advocacy workshops to others…

Here we are in Queanbeyan

NSW

And in Batemans Bay …..

I attended my first NSW CID Conference last year….

And look who I met up with

again …. It’s Jenny Macklin.

She’s a great champion for people with a

disability.

And there was time for a bit of fun in Sydney

I was interviewed for CID TV

I applied for a position on the Disability Council

NSW….

Now I go to Sydney for meetings….

The Disability Council has been great for me.

Meanwhile … our local group is still busy.

Our local priorities are to:

• Involve more people• Inform people about why

self advocacy is important• Inspire people to speak up!

Vladimir Lenin

“It is impossible to predict the time and progress of revolution. It is governed by its own more or less

mysterious laws.”

People who inspire me

Bono You see, idealism detached from action

is just a dream. But idealism allied with pragmatism,

with rolling up your sleeves and making the world bend a bit,

is very exciting. It's very real.

It's very strong.
