Dear Dolphin Community,
I hope this newsletter finds you doing well as we approach the holiday
season. The next few weeks is a time to celebrate a variety of cultural
celebrations and a time to reflect on all the wonderful cultures that make
up our Dolphin community. At Dolphin, it is also a time of giving and
sharing, and students have already started to give to our Annual Mitten
Tree and Food Drive! Thank you for making a difference in our community!
As you know we will be having our Winter Concert on Wednesday
December 13th at 7:00p.m. Our Winter Concert is one of the highlights of
our school year as we get to witness first hand the success of our
students! We have very limited parking at our school so it would be a
good idea to walk to Dolphin or park in the community in areas that allow
parking.
From time to time, I like to remind you of the four Keys to Academic
Success at Dolphin: Achievement, Attendance, Attitude and Behaviour.
Today, I want to speak about Achievement as one of our goals is to
ensure that students reach their academic potential. Recently, your child
received his/her Progress Report and you participated in an interview with
your child’s teacher. This is a great time in the school year to work with
your child to set a few academic goals. Using the information in the
Progress Report and insight from the teacher, you can look at what next
steps you can do as a parent to ensure your child is on the right path to
academic growth.
Peace,
Phil Wilson

Dolphin's musicians are working hard to prepare for the upcoming Winter Concert which will take place Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 7p.m. in the gym. Admission for families is free, however, we will be collecting non-perishable items for the Eden Food Bank, new outdoor gear for our school's "mitten tree", or cash donations to benefit Dolphin's music program. We look forward to seeing many parents, family and friends in the audience!
Concert Week Schedule
Tuesday, Dec. 12
Concert rehearsal in gym
8:45a.m. - 2:30p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 13
Evening concert for families 7p.m.
(performers to arrive for 6:30p.m.)
Thursday, Dec. 14

Attire: Students who own a blue "Dolphin Music" shirt should wear that shirt with black pants/skirt, black socks or tights, and black shoes. Grade 6 students and those who are new to our school and haven't been able to buy a music shirt should wear a plain white dress shirt, and ‘black, black’ on the bottom.
After the Thursday morning concert all bands and choirs will take a break from rehearsals until January.
INCLEMENT WEATHER AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Please keep in mind that if school buses are cancelled due to weather conditions, Dolphin's morning extra-curricular activities will also be cancelled. Please do not drive your child to school for a practice session if school buses are not running.
PLEASE GIVE TO THOSE IN NEED!
Dolphin’s Annual Holiday Mitten Tree Drive is being
held from Monday, Dec 4th to
Friday, Dec. 15th. Families are
invited to decorate our tree with
new mittens, socks, scarves and

items. All of the warm clothes and food items will
be donated to the Salvation Army and Eden Food
Bank to help those in need who are living in our
community. Thank you in advance for your kind
generosity.
SKATING TRIPS
As the colder weather approaches, what better way to keep active than to go skating?
In the new year, each grade level will be going to the Vic Johnston Arena to enjoy the winter sport. The dates and times will be shared at a later date.

NEWS FROM GUIDANCE
Our students had the opportunity to participate in a
Canadian Red Cross First Aid Course for Kids and the
Kids Safety First: At Home All By Myself. Both
programs were taught through interactive
activities. These programs helped students
understand how to handle emergencies, and also
how to recognize unsafe situations. The topics
covered in the First Aid courses were: What’s in a
First Aid kit, Calling Emergency Medical Services,
Know the steps to care for scrapes, cuts, wounds,
nose bleeds, heat burns, choking and allergies. The
‘At Home All By Myself ’ course taught participants
how the rules may have to change when home
alone, and to know the things that children should
and should not do when home alone! The lessons
were taught by a Canadian Red Cross First Aid
Instructor.
COUNTING ON YOU
Dolphin will be starting a Counting On You (COY)
Numeracy program for grade 7 and 8 students
beginning January 9 to March 8. Students in the
program will receive small group instruction,
intensive support through tasks that will target and
develop their skills. If you are interested in enrolling
your child in Counting On You, please speak to your
child’s homeroom teacher or Mr. Jaworski in
Guidance. The program will run after school on
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30—4:00pm.
DOLPHIN CAREER FAIR
A career fair is being planned for all Dolphin students on Friday April 27th, 2018 from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. If you are interested in presenting to our students about your career, please contact
Mr. Jaworski at paul.jaworski@peelsb.com or Mr. Vanellis at chris.vanellis@peelsb.com.
BULLYING AWARENESS AND PREVENTION
Once again, our Dolphin community celebrated
Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week, which
took place from November 20-24th. Through
morning announcements, classroom discussions
and a school wide activity, Dolphin students and
staff took the pledge to “Don’t Go There,
#ChooseACTION” to be Inclusive. When next you
are visiting our school, please take a moment to
view our community pledges that are on display
around our school!'
WINTER BUS SAFETY
On very rare occasions, buses are late because of
weather conditions or mechanical problems. Talk to
your child about what to do if the bus is late.
Here are some suggestions:
When possible, wait with your child for the bus.
Make sure your child knows a phone number
where he can reach you or another trusted
adult.
Teach your child how and where to get help.
Talk to your child about who
is a "safe" stranger.
