Metal Links—Forging Communities together
Heritage and Geo-Tourism
Pentir Pumlumon is one of five partners involved in an interregional project
called Metal Links. Metal Links is a European-funded project that brings
together four former mining communities in Ireland and Wales. The project
is a joint initiative which aims to develop environmental and economic
sustainability, to enhance community well-being and pride of place, and to
provide opportunities for the present and future. The communities will be able to exchange information,
knowledge and experiences, and will benefit from guidance and training in techniques in archaeological,
palaeo-botanical and geological field research.
There will be plenty of opportunities for locals and businesses to get involved and benefit from the project.
From hosting events, providing interesting activities for your guests, adding a sense of place and creating PR
and marketing opportunities for the area. Pentir Pumlumon will be hosting the next project partnership
meeting in March with representatives coming to the area from Anglesey and Ireland.

The Cambrian Mountains Initiative is a wide-ranging
project that aims to help promote rural enterprise,
protect the environment and add value to products
and services in Mid Wales. The project was inspired
by HRH The Prince of Wales who as the Cambrian
Mountains Initiative President wishes to help sustain
traditional upland farms and rural communities.
Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Pentir Pumlumon have a strong interest in micro and community scale renewable energy and energy efficiency schemes. Not only are these schemes good for the environment and your bank balance, they can also generate income that can be reinvested into the community.
Details of the March 2012
Pumlumon Community
Energy Efficiency &
Renewable Energy event to be
announced soon.

with several organizations

for renewable energy and
energy efficiency schemes.
In collaboration with the
Cambrian Mountains Initiative,
Pentir Pumlumon will be
organizing an event, in March
2012 focusing on ways
communities can get involved
and benefit too.
For instance, how to receive a
fully-subsided energy audit and
thermal imaging report of the
local community hall; or
perhaps a micro-hydro
feasibility survey.
On January 19th, 2012 some of
Pentir Pumlumon’s members

subsidized workshop on using
Facebook for businesses. It was
run by Software Alliance Wales

The proposed large scale Nant Y Moch windfarm continues to
be a major concern of Pentir Pumlumon. In particular any
potential impacts on the Bwlch Nant y Arian visitors centre and
recreation trails. This site is the largest tourist attraction in the
area, attracting in over 125,000 visitors a year. Therefore any
disruptions could have significant implications for the
surrounding area.
Pentir Pumlumon are currently engaged in the community
consultation process and will keep you informed of any
developments.
