Refers to cleanliness of a person’s body

Why is personal hygiene important?

Personal hygiene is important in

preventing illness and improving

appearance.

It plays an important role in social

acceptance.

Personal hygiene practices will help in

keeping you healthy, give you confidence

and be pleasant for those around you

The cleanliness of your body can be

achieved through: 1. Caring for your skin.

2. Caring for your hair.

3. Caring for your nails.

4. Caring for your teeth.

1) Your skin

Your skin is an organ, just like your lungs,

or heart. In fact the skin is considered the

body’s largest organ.

Eleven year olds have skin size twice their

brain’s.

A) Body odour

Sweating is a vital and normal process.

When people sweat the bacteria

combines to sweat to produce body

odour which is most of the time is an

embarrassing thing.

GET RID OF BODY ODOUR

Body odour can be effectively managed by:

Daily showers or baths.

Shower using soap and water and not water only.

Changing one’s clothes daily.

Use of a deodorant

How to Wash Our Hands Properly?

1- Wash your hands using clean and hot water.

2- Wash finger tips by soap.

3- Wash inside part of your hands minimum 20 seconds.

4- Purify your hands under water.

5- Dry your hands by clean towel.

2-How to take care of your hair?

Daily brushing keeps your hair healthy by

removing dirt and spreading oils from the

roots to the ends.

Wash your hair regularly.

Wash combs and brushes frequently and

don’t share them with anyone.

3-How to take care of your nails?

Trim your nails but

don’t cut them shorter

that skin level.

Keep your nails clean.

Use a brush to ensure

the cleanliness of your

nails.

4) Your teeth

Healthy teeth and gums enable you to :

Chew food.

Speak clearly.

Give shape and structure to your mouth.

Brushing and flossing

Brush and floss daily.

Brush at least twice a day and if possible

after every meal.

Use a soft brush.

Replace your toothbrush every 2 – 3

months or after an illness.
