VILS Professional Learning Strategies

Storytelling as Professional Learning

How do we know what learning looks like?

Data is a much bigger word than it used to be.

Stories ARE data - and they give information that is beyond the data we’ve used in the past.

What stories are your learners telling on Friday?

It’s not a question of IF your learners should

be storytellers.

They already are. We have an obligation to help them

tell the right stories.

COLLECT IT. CURATE IT.

CULTIVATE IT. CREATE IT.

We have evidence.

We don’t have evidence

...yet.

Ask: Do I have rich evidence of learning?

How do you know if you have a story?

There are stories throughout the whole learning process.

By putting a focus on storytelling, we have a richer, more evidence-based learning experience.

By creating storytellers, we give all students a voice and ownership in their learning.

Scaling● Use a PL Planning Template to create a

school plan for the year.

● Collect and use data.

● Add third party opportunities, STEM events, and partner opportunities

● Use a LMS as a delivery mechanism for resources

● Implement strategic actions (standards) for each stakeholder and track progress. Trello
