PETER MARTENSENPeter Martensen, born 1953 in Odense, Denmark, is a talented artist in several regards; he is a skilled visual artist, painter and musician.

Martensen studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Odense, Denmark from 1971-1977 and consequently studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in

Copenhagen from 1982-1984. He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe. He has also been commissioned to make

pieces for the NOKIA Head Office and Saxo Bank Head Office in Copenhagen, Denmark among several other corporate commissions. His work

is part of several prominent public collections, including the Statens Museum in Denmark, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the

Gothenburg Art Museum in Sweden.

His oil on canvas works recall Thomas Eakins and Edward Hopper but they have a style distinctly his own. Using a limited palette of

subdued colors, Martensen confronts the modern, urban world of today and the isolation and loss of individuality that is possible within such

a crowded space. Furthermore, Martensen is gifted in many fields beyond oil painting. He creates highly skilled video art, watercolors, portraits

and sculptures. Peter Martensen, along with two other painters, Svend Danielsen and Peter Holmgren, founded a group of sound performers

in 1990; this group remains active today with 14 members. He currently lives and works in all these mediums in Hellerup, a small Danish town

just outside of Copenhagen.
