During
the summer, we
had communicated
with our
co-workers in
France and had
learned that
a french fellow had shown up one day
wanting more information
about the church. Mike invited him
to
study the Bible
and started a series of
four
lessons
with him.

Sing
them over
again
to
me, Wonder
ful
words
of
life. The words
you are
about to
read
are just
that,
wonder
ful words of
life .
You might
remem
ber the Kim fauoily (Koreans) who have
been attending for
about
a year or
so.
Well the non-instrumental church
of
Christ in Toulouse
also has several
Koreans attending,
enough to pay for
a Korean evangelist to come
from
Kor
ea
to
France for a month
of teaching.
We
took
advantage of the
situation &
invited the Kims to go
to
Toulouse
with us
for the weekend.
Their
French
is not very
good so we
didn't
really
know how much they had
been getting
out
of
our
services
&
studies.
We went down on
Thursday and
ceune
back Saturday.
That Sunday,
they
were
immersed
into
Christ. Where would we do it
was
the
question.
There
is
one
of
the public
pools
set
aside for religious services
and you must
reserve it 2
weeks in
advance with the Mayor's office. We
hadn't done that
and probably never
will since we baptize on the spot as
the
Apostles
did. Anyway
the
river here was
already
cold
and it's
always
scummy. We
then
thought of Dany. She is
one of our friends
who
lives in an
apartment building which just
happens
to
have a pool which had not yet
been
winterized.
She
was a little
afraid
of
what the
other residents would
do
but
invited
us to
go
ahead and we did.
On October 30th, The first baptisms
at
the church
of
Christ in Poitiers took
place.
Mr. Kim
is
a bike racer
and
when
a biker wins a race he raises his
hands
as
he
crosses the finish line
and
Mr. Kim
did
this after his
baptism.
We have
started
an
activity
night
on Fridays. We usually have some
kind of
activity but
the main goal
is to give
people
a place to come
and drink
some coffee or pop
and
to
talk.
In November,
we had a
Anglo-Franco-American party where
the
French
speakers spoke English
and the English apeakers
spoke
French.
Six nationalities were
re
presented among
the 35 people that
attended. We've also started a book
stand in
the
public markets which
take place
twice
a
week.
With
the
stand we sell Christian books and
make free literature available.
The stand is
always
up
in
the
church building so the books
pro-
voque some good conversations at
the activity
nights
which
is
what
we
hoped
would happen. The weekend
of the 12th
of
Nov. we
had a ret
reat
at la
Rochelle. We
had 15
who
were supposed to go but ended up
with 8, It was really
good
and
one gal became interested in
the
Faith from it all, Richard
Andrew-
jeski, a
Christian from the Lille
church
of
Christ (non-inst.), was
our speaker. Karen, an american
Intern,
and Helen, a british
girl,
both went swimming in the ocean. Remem
ber
it
was in
Nov.
Needless to
say
the
two gals were the only people in the
water.
We
still
have 5
people
involved
in the English through
Luke
program.
This month we
start
stuffing mal l boxes
for a new
progreun Dare
to
Live . This
program developed by our non-inst.
brothers consists
of
three
booklets
sent
In
the
mall to
those
that
return a
request
card.
These booklets
treat
problems
In
life,
human
relation
ships, spirituality. Then
in
Feb., we
are
having
a 2 day conference on the same subjects in which we will invite
the people who
have
responded as well as the public. Alot
is
happening and
there's alot
in
the planning so continue
to pray for
our
efforts.
The
team
has
contact
with
about
30
people
that have expressed interest in what we
are doing.
None
of these people seem
ready to
make any committments but
they are at least responsive in a positive way as opposed to the negativism
ve've experienced in
others. Many
people still think of
us as an
american
club
or
something. In a
sense,
I can see how
it
would be easy to think
that,
what
would
you
think
if
5 Arabs moved
to your community
and started
propoga-
ting Islam? Little by littl e, people
are
coming
to
understand our purpose
and goals. Remembering these folk in prayer
is
very
important.
I
could list
all of the
names but I think
the
Lord will know better than
you
who you are
praying for
but
I
will
mention
just
a
few
who seem
to be more
interested than
some of-the
others;
Isabelle (went to retreat and
started
taking correspond-
ance course); Benoit (mentioned in
other updates
_wi 1 be,
mqyljig inland
to work); Tourya
Rosa—(taking our Luke English course);
Nathalie ^taking
Luke ccmrse- as well for over a year now,
she
had
planned
to
go to the re-
^rea^fwhich was a committal move
for her
but the timing didn't work) The
Kims (now christians-pray for their continual growth. We have
purchased
a
Korean Bible for
them
which should help) One
last
thing-We will be in the
U.S.A. summer 1989 and need housing. We would like to find something for fr^
