COURSE DESCRIPTIONThis course will be an in-depth study of the philosophy of Rene Descartes. Considered the “father of modern philosophy,” Descartes offered important contributions in metaphysics, epistemology, mathematics, physics, astronomy, and more. We will study Descartes in historical context, and critically examine his views on core issues as diverse as God’s existence, free-will, the mind-body problem, foundationalist epistemology, and more. We will also critically engage with important secondary literature concerning these issues.
