How to Critique By: Ben Cutler

What is Critiquing?

Critiquing is when you look at a photograph and say what is good what is bad and what needs to be improved.

Looking at how to critique

In order to properly critique, you also need to move past personal opinions. In black and white photographs, you should look at color contrast, and photo quality. When looking at color quality, check for color balance, if it is all dark grey and black then it has less quality. Likewise if it is blurry, or out of focus it lacks quality, unless it was done on purpose to emphasise something.

Example

In the photo above

You will notice that there are hues of grey and blacks and white to make a good contrast. The photo is not blurry and is visible.
