Guidelines for Using This File

The following video motion studies accompany Lab 5A. Read the lab

instructions carefully so that you’ll know when and how to use each image

sequence. These guidelines provide additional information that will help you

interpret the first image sequence correctly.

• When determining the ball’s position on the distance scale, always use the

bottom edge of the ball as the reference position.

• If the ball is a streak, use the bottom of the streak as the reference position.

• Each division on the distance scale represents 5 cm.

• If the ball is in between divisions, estimate to the nearest 1 cm.

• Examples: Frame #5, 17 cm; Frame #12, 113 cm

Do not include the final frame (#16) in your model.

The ball actually reached the ground and stopped

in between Frames #15 and #16. Including Frame

#16 in your model will introduce inaccuracy. It is

shown here solely to demonstrate that the free-fall

image sequence is complete.
