• PLEASE READ THESE; you are required to understand the details of the project

• Come with questions next recitation about the project

Team Project• Build a database for a real-world company– Using Microsoft Access 2013

• Database should help to solve or improve situation at company– Database should provide business value

• Must have first-hand experience with company– One group member must have previously worked

for the company

Project Phases• Project Brainstorming Exercise– Individual– Everyone must come up with a project idea

• Project Brainstorming Exercise– Group– Pick two ideas: “Favorite” and “back-up”

• Preliminary Project Idea Proposal– Answer questions on pp. 92-93 in Access textbook

Project Phases• ERD Rough Draft– We will discuss these in 2 weeks– Graphical representation of your database

• Final Project Proposal– Write-up of project idea and ERD

• Re-grades– Done if Professor Murray does not approve your

project idea

Project Deliverables• Database– Must add business value– Made from scratch (pre-existing database cannot

exist)• Write-up (Report/Essay)– As long as necessary– Will explain various aspects of the project• Database reasoning• Future considerations

• Company Website– Will use HTML and Weebly for website– We will cover this in lab in the last three weeks of

• You must go above and beyond on your database and website to receive an A– Must do a few extra things PER SECTION of the

checklist– You can figure out the extra things to do from

your homework assignments

• Begin Project Proposal (pp. 89-91)– Brainstorm ideas for project based on

your previous work experience– Take about 10 minutes to do this,
