My reflection on growing my PLN on Twitter

I joined Twitter (@s-essing) on May 10, 2013 and started my developing my PLN.

One person I follow is George Couros (@gcouros):

• Couros is the Division Principal of Innovative Teaching and Learning for Parkland School Division

• He is also a speaker and consultant

• I enjoying following Couros because he is always up to date on current practices within education, especially when it comes to finding new ways to incorporate technology

• Tweets on a regular basis

I also follow Taylor Mali (@TaylorMali):

• Mali is a teacher (English, history and math) and a slam poet. He now lectures all over the world

• Mali is a good choice to follow not only because he is incredibly inspirational for teachers but his slam poetry would also be creative inspiration for my English and drama students.

• Tweets on a regular basis

An organization that I follow is Teaching Drama:

• A twice-termly drama magazine produced in the UK

• Written for teachers by teachers, playwrights, and drama practitioners

• Is quite useful for drama teachers as the tweet reviews different course books and workshops, suggests plays for young people and lectures by playwrights, etc.

This is my PLN as of June 11, 2013. As you can see I’ve gained followers, expanded those who I follow, and have tweeted and retweeted posts.

PLN Reflection:• One of the many great things about Twitter is that it allows you to

be connected to people from all over the world, as I demonstrated with the three people/organizations I follow. The resources are limitless as educators band together to help create better education worldwide.

• A huge movement in education right now is figuring out how to incorporate technology effectively into the classroom. Consequently I follow many twitter feeds specifically related to this issue. What better way is there to learn how to use technology effectively than to use technology.

• To customize my PLN , I also follow women who I consider to be strong female role models. As a woman I find it incredibly important not only to support other women but also to bring these influential women to the forefront for my students to find.

• My favorite hahstags include #edtech, #Edchat, #edit202, #teachingdrama
