Portreath Primary School Newsletter
Portreath is such a fortunate school because we have so many people in the community supporting the
school. Just in one week I feel I have so many people to thank. A huge thank-you to Danny Marsh for
organising such a fantastic surf cadet training day this week. Thank-you to all of the coaches who
created such an exciting day at the Portreath’s Surf Life Saving Club. The children were buzzing when
they came back to school. Thank-you to Lynsey for running Pilates on the beach sessions to raise
money for the school to buy netball posts and the PTA for supporting this too. Thank-you to Kelly and
the team who tidied and sorted Sarah’s Garden. Thank-you to Shoni Haswell who ran a really
interesting information session on children’s mental health. Thank-you to Leigh Frazer who came in
and ran a STEM workshop in Class 4. Thank-you to all the parents who brought in bags of clothes to
raise money for the PTA and to Rebecca McKenzie for organising this. Thank-you to Mr Allen who
dedicated an evening to tidying, sorting and developing Class 1’s outside area. As always thank-you
to all the staff for all their hard work and commitment. And thank-you to anyone I have missed out!
Over the last few weeks nine members of staff have visited Treloweth School to observe mastery style
maths lessons. Next year we will be adapting the way we teach maths and these observations have
helped us to clarify how these new style lessons could work. Miss Clarke is currently working with the
Cornwall Maths Hub and is excited about leading these changes at our school. Next year we are
planning to run some sessions for parents about how we teach maths. Maths teaching is something
that I am really passionate about as it is such as fascinating subject.

Rosemellin School to take part in a
rocket workshop run by the Crofty MAT.
Thankyou to Shoni who came into school on Tuesday evening for
our second Mental Health Information Session and thank-you to
those parents who attended. Shoni is going to give me details of
any courses that Value Lives are running at other venues which I
can pop on the newsletter. We have copies of the leaflet and the
powerpoint rom the first session available in the of-
fice if you would like a copy. For more information
about the work the charity does visit their website:

Over the past few weeks Class 5 have been involved in
setting up and running their own businesses. On Tuesday
3rd July they will be holding their selling event for the items
they have produced. Please come along and support them.
Items being marketed will include key rings, home whittled
pencils, non plastic sandwich wraps, reusable drinks
bottles, driftwood mirrors, upcycled jam jars, slime and
calendars. Stalls will be open from 2:45 pm and will be
outside class 5 if dry or inside if wet.
PLEASE DRIVE WITH CAUTION
We have had several reports over the last couple of weeks of a few drivers not taking due care around
school. Please be extra careful during drop off time as there are many children walking into school.
Also it is best if you park towards the village so that children do not have to walk across the entrance to
the carpark. Please also treat other drivers with respect, we do not want children witnessing any road
rage. Thank-you for your co-operation.
Tehidy Golf Competition
The children had a great
time at Tehidy Golf club
showing off their newly
learnt skills. Thanks to
Mrs Kerslake for taking
them.

Portreath Primary School,
throughout the year,
distributes fliers and
magazines offering family
services or posts details of
local activities on the
newsletter. Whilst we
think that parents might
like the information and
find it useful, the school
does not endorse these
services.
Class 4 Assembly
Class 4 did a fantastic assembly today.
The Year 4 children shared their camp
experiences and Year 5 taught the
parents all about Growth Mindset.
Thanks to Mrs Price and Mrs Kerslake
for all their hard work with this. We are
hoping to put a copy of the camp photo
presentation on the website soon. We
just need to ensure we have permission
from all parents first. If you have
signed the updated permission form
this will cover it. It would be great to
put the growth
mindset work on too.
