Portugal/Spain/Italy “Cruise with Golf” Tour
19 October to 4 November 2017 from US$4,076 per person twin share (+ Euro 1,700 pp golf supplement)
ONE OFF DISCOUNTED CRUISE PRICE TO 16 FEBRUARY 2017 Trendsetter Travel & Cruise Centre welcomes your joining us on this spectacular Lisbon to Rome
cruise, offering a wonderful opportunity to both experience beautiful ports and play at selected,
highly regarded local and international golf courses. Our tour includes two pre cruise nights at the 5
star Ritz Carlton Hotel at the Penha Longa Golf Resort, 8 games of golf, coach transfers and prize
money. An option exists to include up to two additional games of golf to the golf package.
Our home-away-from home, the 900 passenger vessel Crystal Symphony, is a luxury ship offering the
highest standards with complimentary fine wines and spirits, superb culinary experiences in both the
main restaurant and specialty restaurants, and excellent enrichment and entertainment possibilities.
Additionally, this Lisbon to Rome itinerary, 16 luxurious nights long, operates in October/November
when temperatures for both sightseeing and golf are perfect. And your 2 day stays in both Barcelona
and Monaco are a real bonus!
What could be more enjoyable than sightseeing, and swinging your clubs, in some of Europe’s most
beautiful ports? Golfers with non-playing partners can enjoy their games, knowing those partners
are having an equally fine time checking out the sights, or relaxing onboard. And with a golf option
of a minimum of 8 games over the 16 days, and long days ashore, there is still plenty of time to enjoy
the various ports. As a single or a couple you will have a fine time on this fabulous cruise itinerary.
Our Crystal cruise includes:
Complimentary beverages throughout the ship
In-suite dining and 24 hour room service
Gratuities and free wifi (1 hour/day/pp)
Transportation pier to town and return
Open seating for meals
US$250 pp on-board credit
and much, much more
Your tour hosts Adrienne Witteman and David Cooper, Directors
of Trendsetter Travel & Cruise Centre, are both enthusiastic
golfers and are both longstanding members of two prestigious
Sydney golf clubs. They have golfed and cruised extensively
throughout the world.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Thursday 19 October 2017 Lisbon (Penha Longa)
Lisbon, the capital of the once great Portuguese empire, is now one of Europe’s premier historic
cities, and remains unscathed from the many European wars of the past 200 years. It offers many
delightful pre and post cruise exploring options.
Today, make your way independently to the Penha Longa Golf Resort, located approximately 30
minutes from either Lisbon airport or Lisbon city. Penha Longa offers 27 holes of golf, including the
famous 18 hole Atlantico Championship Course. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr in 1992, this
course is now rated in the top 10 courses in Portugal and has hosted many professional
tournaments, including the Portugal Open. It is a stunning course that winds through the hills and
offers views of the Atlantic Ocean. Our hotel tonight is the resort’s highly rated 5 star Ritz Carlton,
with breakfast included. However, dinner is your own arrangement. For those wanting to stay
additional pre tour nights, we have negotiated a very competitive tour room rate.
Day 2– Friday 20 October 2017 – Lisbon (Penha Longa)
Golf – After a relaxing morning at our resort, we will leave at 11.30 am to play Oitavos Dunes (a 25
minute drive from Penha Longa resort), Lisbon’s best golf course and consistently rated in the top
100 golf courses worldwide. Following recent improvements to the course, Golf Magazine has rated
the course 58th in the world and 2nd best in Europe. We tee off at 1 pm and will return to Penha
Longa where you can dine under your own arrangements. This will be the highest rated course we
play on tour and is considered a must play for any golfer visiting Lisbon.
Dining tonight is under your own arrangements.
Day 3 – Saturday 21 October 2017 – depart port at 5 pm
Golf - we tee off from 8.30 am on the famous
Atlantico Course at Penha Longa. Following
golf there is time for lunch before
transferring to Lisbon for a mid-afternoon
embarkation on Crystal Symphony.
Day 4 – Sunday 22 October – Seville/Huelva – in port 10 am to 10 pm
After a leisurely morning at sea, we arrive at the port city of Huelva. It is a circa 100 km drive to
Seville which takes around 70 minutes.
Golf - we will drive nearly 50 km to the coastal resort of Islantilla and play the Islantilla Golf Course.
It should not disappoint. We will be back in port with time to explore the port town of Huelva
before dinner on Crystal Symphony.
Day 5 – Monday 23 October 2017 – Gibraltar – in port 9.00 am – 5.00 pm
No golf today as no golf courses in Gibraltar. However, while there are many great Spanish courses
within a 30 minute drive of Gibraltar, this is considered too risky given the potential for significant
delays crossing the border into Spain. Gibraltar promises to be a fascinating and incredibly historic
place to explore for the day. Remember you will need the UK Pound if using cash when in Gibraltar
because it remains proudly British.
Day 6 – Tuesday 24 October 2017 – Cartegena – in port 9.00 am – 10 pm
Today, we’re in Cartagena, a port city located
in South East Spain, founded in Roman times
and now divided into an old and a new city.
Golf - our focus today is the magnificent La
Manga Golf Resort, specifically the West
Course, the highest rated of their 3 x 18 hole
golf courses. This course is rated in the top 10
in all of Southern Spain.
Day 7 – Wednesday 25 October 2017 – cruising Mediterranean
Day 8 – Thursday 26 October 2017 – Mallorca – in port 8.00 am – 6 pm
Still part of Spain, Mallorca became famous in the Spanish Civil War (1936 to 1939) as the place
where the Republicans sought unsuccessfully to expel General Franco’s Nationalist forces in what
became known as the Battle of Mallorca. Today it is one of Europe’s favourite holiday destinations
with a climate guaranteed to be balmy, even in late October.
Golf – a 30 minute drive takes us to Golf Son Gual, rated #8 in Spain and the best of Mallorca’s more than a dozen golf courses.
Day 9 – Friday 27 October 2017 – Tarragona – in port 8 am to 10 pm
Once a Roman town, it is now a port city
of over 100,000 residents located on the
coast mid way between Barcelona and
Villencia. A very historic city, with battles
for the fortress town occurring in both the
Peninsula War in 1812 and the Spanish
Civil War where Franco’s troops captured
the city from the Republican forces in
1939.
Golf – a short drive takes us to Lumine Golf Club, a Greg Norman designed and Troon Golf managed
45 hole complex. We will play the Hills Course, the more attractive of the two 18 hole courses.
Day 10 – Saturday 28 October 2017 – Barcelona - in port 8 am – in port overnight
We arrive early and over-night in Barcelona,
one of Europe’s finest cities and rated among
the best in the world. As Spain’s 2nd largest
city and capital of the Catalonia Region, it was
home to the 1992 summer Olympics and
today is a truly exciting destination. Barcelona
has fabulous sightseeing, most notably the
remarkable works and influences of Gaudi -
Sagrada Familia (destined for final completion
in 2026), Casa Battlo and verily the whole city
it seems! Our first day in Barcelona is devoted
to golf while day 2 is a free day for independent exploring of this wonderful city or joining one of the
ship’s tours.
Golf: – we travel around 45 minutes by coach to play the Greg Norman designed Real Club de Golf El
Prat, venue for the 2015 Spanish Open and one of the two best courses in Catalonia. We will return
early evening in time for dinner on Crystal or to dine in Barcelona and experience one of the many
local restaurants.
Day 11 – Sunday 29 October 2017 – Barcelona – depart port 6 pm
Independent travelling with no scheduled golf.
Golf Option - an escorted round of golf (including coach transfers) will be arranged at either
Lavaneras or Barcelona golf clubs. Note this is an optional extra to your tour.
Day 12 – Monday 30 October 2017 – Cruising Mediterranean
Day 13 – Tuesday 31 October 2017 – Corsica/Ajaccio – in port 8 am – 6 pm
Ajaccio is a lovely coastal port on the western coast of Corsica.
A day without golf but with plenty of time to explore the local town or venture out on one of the
many ship’s tours.
Day 14 – Wednesday 1 November 2017 – Monaco – in port 8.00 am – in port overnight
In 1297, the Grimaldi Family seized this
once fortified town and apart from a short
time under the rule of Napoleon, has ruled
this Principality ever since. The Principality
of Monaco, at less than 500 acres, is
smaller than New York’s Central Park and is
home to many of the rich and famous, who
are attracted, in part, by an absence of
income tax. Monaco’s wealth is generated
through tourism and its famous casinos,
being most famous for the Monte Carlo
Grand Prix. Of course, it became very
prominent post-WWII with the marriage of
Hollywood’s Grace Kelly to Prince Rainier,
the then ruler of Monaco.
With Crystal berthing over-night in Monaco and no golf scheduled, there is ample time for exploring
Monaco or to explore the many wonderful towns and villages over the border in France.
Day 15 – Thursday 2 November 2017 – Monaco – depart 6 pm
Golf - Monte Carlo Golf Club, located in
France, this is the only significant golf club
within reasonable distance of Monaco and
offers stunning views of Monaco and its
harbour. We will leave at 8.30 am for a
magnificent 30 minute continuous drive up
the hills over-looking Monaco with the golf
course located 1,000 metres above sea
level. This was voted the favourite course
on a recent Trendsetter golf cruise. There
will be time for a relaxing cold beverage
before we make a leisurely trip back to our
ship in Monaco and departure south to Italy.
Day 16 – Friday 3 November 2017 – Livorno/Florence – in port 7 am – 7 pm
Livorno is the port for Florence, a city that needs no
introduction. The myriad touring options here include
famous galleries and luxury boutiques, treasured sites
such as the Duomo (why not climb to the top of the
cupola for a truly scenic view?) and plenty of restaurants
serving traditional Florentine cuisine. You could also
choose to travel further afield to one of the Tuscan
hilltop towns such as Lucca.
Golf Option – While no formal golf is scheduled, we have
secured late morning bookings options at both the highly
rated Circolo Golf Ugolini and at the Arnold Palmer
designed Golf Club Le Pavoniere, both an approximate 1 hour drive from Livorno. Golf is considered
a good option for those that have visited Florence previously and do not want to undertake the 90
minute drive each way (or alternative train journey). Note this is an optional escorted extra to your
tour and is inclusive of coach transfers.
Day 17 – Saturday 4 November 2017 – Rome/Civitavecchia – in port 5 am
Today we say goodbye to Crystal Symphony
and newfound friends as we depart after
breakfast for home, or perhaps to Rome for a
final taste of Italy. The glories of Rome need no
introduction – the Spanish Steps, the Trevi
Fountain, the Coliseum, Vatican City and the
Sistine Chapel, and more ...
For those wanting one more game, there are
two great golf courses near Rome: Golf
Nazionale (ranked 5th in Italy and 1st in greater
Rome area) and Roma Acquasanta (ranked 11th
in Italy and 2nd in Rome). We will be happy to arrange a game to suit those interested.
