A look at what happened after Jesus was raised from the dead.

TRANSCRIPT

Post-ResurrectionPost-Resurrection

Last week we talked about Jesus being resurrected from the dead. Today I

want to look at post-resurrection, what all happened after he came out of the

tomb.

Post-ResurrectionPost-Resurrection

It is important to know as fact people did see Jesus alive again. Jesus appears

to Mary Magdalene first.

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

Mark 16:9 NET Early on the first day of the week, after he arose, he appeared first

to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had driven out seven demons.

Jesus Appears to the Women, Mary Magdalene & the other Mary.

(This is probably the same event as Mark 16) I am basing the order of

these events on JESUS FROM SEVEN SOURCES

Kenneth Ray Taylor

Jesus Appears to The WomenJesus Appears to The Women

Matthew 28:9 NET But Jesus met them, saying, "Greetings!" They came to him,

held on to his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be

afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee. They will see me there."

Jesus Appears to Cleopas & Peter Jesus Appears to Cleopas & Peter

Mark 16:12 NET After this he appeared in a different form to two of them while they

were on their way to the country. 13 They went back and told the rest, but they did

not believe them.

Jesus Appears to Cleopas & PeterJesus Appears to Cleopas & Peter

Luke 24:13 NET Now that very day two of them were on their way to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles

from Jerusalem.

Jesus Appears to Cleopas & PeterJesus Appears to Cleopas & Peter

14 They were talking to each other about all the things that had happened. 15 While they were talking and debating these things, Jesus himself approached and

began to accompany them

Jesus Appears to Cleopas & PeterJesus Appears to Cleopas & Peter

16 (but their eyes were kept from recognizing him). 17 Then he said to them,

"What are these matters you are discussing so intently as you walk along?"

And they stood still, looking sad.

Jesus Appears to Cleopas & PeterJesus Appears to Cleopas & Peter

18 Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, "Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who doesn't know the things

that have happened there in these days?" 19 He said to them, "What things?" "The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene,"

Jesus Appears to Cleopas & PeterJesus Appears to Cleopas & Peter

they replied, "a man who, with his powerful deeds and words, proved to be a prophet before God and all the people; 20 and how

our chief priests and rulers handed him over to be condemned to death, and

crucified him.

Jesus Appears to Cleopas & PeterJesus Appears to Cleopas & Peter

21 But we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. Not only this, but it is now the third day since these things happened. 22 Furthermore, some

women of our group amazed us.

Jesus Appears to Cleopas & PeterJesus Appears to Cleopas & Peter

They were at the tomb early this morning, 23 and when they did not find

his body, they came back and said they had seen a vision of angels, who

said he was alive.

Jesus Appears to Cleopas & PeterJesus Appears to Cleopas & Peter

24 Then some of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just as the

women had said, but they did not see him." 25 So he said to them, "You foolish people — how slow of heart to believe all

that the prophets have spoken!

Jesus Appears to Cleopas & PeterJesus Appears to Cleopas & Peter

26 Wasn’t it necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and enter into his

glory?" 27 Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them

the things written about himself in all the scriptures.

Jesus Appears to Cleopas & PeterJesus Appears to Cleopas & Peter

28 So they approached the village where they were going. He acted as though he wanted to go farther, 29 but they urged him, "Stay with us, because it is getting toward evening and the day is almost

done."

Jesus Appears to Cleopas & PeterJesus Appears to Cleopas & Peter

So he went in to stay with them. 30 When he had taken his place at the table with them, he took the bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. 31 At this point their eyes were opened and they

recognized him.

Jesus Appears to Cleopas & PeterJesus Appears to Cleopas & Peter

Then he vanished out of their sight. 32 They said to each other, "Didn't our hearts burn within us while he was speaking with us on the road, while he was explaining the

scriptures to us?"

Jesus Appears to Cleopas & PeterJesus Appears to Cleopas & Peter

33 So they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem. They found the eleven and those with them gathered together 34 and saying, "The Lord has

really risen, and has appeared to Simon!"

Jesus Appears to Cleopas & PeterJesus Appears to Cleopas & Peter

35 Then they told what had happened on the road, and how they recognized him

when he broke the bread.1 Corinthians 15:5 NET and that he appeared to

Cephas, then to the twelve.

Jesus Appears to His DisciplesJesus Appears to His Disciples

Mark 16:14 NET Then he appeared to the eleven themselves, while they were

eating, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen

him resurrected.

Jesus Appears to Thomas Jesus Appears to Thomas

John 20:24 NET Now Thomas (called Didymus), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 The other disciples told him, "We have

seen the Lord!"

Jesus Appears to ThomasJesus Appears to Thomas

But he replied, "Unless I see the wounds from the nails in his hands, and put my finger into the wounds

from the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will never believe it!"

Jesus Appears to ThomasJesus Appears to Thomas

26 Eight days later the disciples were again together in the house, and Thomas was

with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!"

Jesus Appears to ThomasJesus Appears to Thomas

27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and examine my hands. Extend your

hand and put it into my side. Do not continue in your unbelief, but believe." 28 Thomas replied to him, "My Lord and my

God!"

Jesus Appears to ThomasJesus Appears to Thomas

29 Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are the people who have not

seen and yet have believed."

Jesus Appears to ThomasJesus Appears to Thomas

30 Now Jesus performed many other miraculous signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not recorded

in this book.

Jesus Appears to ThomasJesus Appears to Thomas

31 But these are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing

you may have life in his name.

Jesus Appears by the Sea of Galilee Jesus Appears by the Sea of Galilee

John 21:1 NET After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the

Sea of Tiberias. Now this is how he did so.

Jesus Appears by the Sea of GalileeJesus Appears by the Sea of Galilee

2 Simon Peter, Thomas (called Didymus), Nathanael (who was from Cana in

Galilee), the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples of his were together. 3 Simon Peter told them, "I am going

fishing."

Jesus Appears by the Sea of GalileeJesus Appears by the Sea of Galilee

"We will go with you," they replied. They went out and got into the boat, but that

night they caught nothing. 4 When it was already very early morning, Jesus stood on the beach, but the disciples did not

know that it was Jesus.

Jesus Appears by the Sea of GalileeJesus Appears by the Sea of Galilee

5 So Jesus said to them, "Children, you don't have any fish, do you?" They

replied, "No." 6 He told them, "Throw your net on the right side of the boat, and you

will find some."

Jesus Appears by the Sea of GalileeJesus Appears by the Sea of Galilee

So they threw the net, and were not able to pull it in because of the large

number of fish. 7 Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is

the Lord!"

Jesus Appears by the Sea of GalileeJesus Appears by the Sea of Galilee

So Simon Peter, when he heard that it was the Lord, tucked in his outer garment (for he had nothing on

underneath it), and plunged into the sea.

Jesus Appears by the Sea of GalileeJesus Appears by the Sea of Galilee

8 Meanwhile the other disciples came with the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from land, only about a hundred yards. 9 When they got out on

the beach, they saw a charcoal fire ready with a fish placed on it, and bread.

Jesus Appears by the Sea of GalileeJesus Appears by the Sea of Galilee

10 Jesus said, "Bring some of the fish you have just now caught." 11 So Simon Peter went aboard and pulled the net to shore. It

was full of large fish, one hundred fifty-three, but although there were so many,

the net was not torn.

Jesus Appears by the Sea of GalileeJesus Appears by the Sea of Galilee

12 “Come, have breakfast," Jesus said. But none of the disciples dared to ask

him, "Who are you?" because they knew it was the Lord.

The Great CommissionThe Great Commission

Matthew 28:16 NET So the eleven disciples went to Galilee to the mountain Jesus

had designated. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him, but some

doubted.

The Great CommissionThe Great Commission

18 Then Jesus came up and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the

Son and the Holy Spirit,

20 teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And

remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

The Great CommissionThe Great Commission

Mark 16:15 NET He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 The one who believes and is baptized will be saved, but the one who does not believe will be condemned.

blessed them. 51 Now during the blessing he departed and was taken up into

heaven. 52 So they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,

Acts 1:9 NET After he had said this, while they were watching, he was lifted up and a

cloud hid him from their sight. 10 As they were still staring into the sky while he was going, suddenly two men in white clothing

stood near them

11 and said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking up into the sky? This

same Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will come back in the

same way you saw him go into heaven."

Jesus returned to where He belongs, in glory with the Father. He ascended

back into Heaven. Has anyone seen him since?

Acts 9:1 NET Meanwhile Saul, still breathing out threats to murder the

Lord's disciples, went to the high priest 2 and requested letters from him to the

synagogues in Damascus,

was going along, approaching Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven flashed

around him.

His face shone like the sun shining at full strength. 17 When I saw him I fell

down at his feet as though I were dead, but he placed his right hand on

me and said:

We are certain Jesus, God’s Son, died for our sins, was buried and on the 3rd day,

was raised from the dead. We are certain this was not done in secret

due to the testimony of those who saw him after being raised.
