Dubai continues to grow as the regions hub for these two business sectors and it is evident by the success of
both IPM DUBAI and WOP DUBAI. Since its inception four years ago, World of Perishables has seen tremendous
growth mainly due to the fact that the fruit and vegetables industries have steadily been growing throughout
the years. Since 2008 to 2010, Dubai has seen a 16 per cent growth in the import of fresh fruits and a 20 per
cent growth in fresh vegetables.
In 2011 United Arab Emirates imported nearly 2.9 billion Kgs of fruits and vegetables valued at approximately 2.4
billion USD (8.7 billion AED). Dubai is such a multi-cultural hub and home to many nationali- ties, which is a key
driving force for the imports of fruits and vegeta- bles from across the globe. Dubai has also proved to be the
re-export center for the region’s markets such as Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain. In 2010,
Dubai alone imported over 1.1 billion kgs of fresh fruits at a value of over Dhs 4 billion, exported nearly 38
million kgs at a value of approximately Dhs 90 million and re-exported 463 million kgs valued nearly at Dhs 1.5
billion. Figures were also substantial for fresh vegetables in 2011 as per the below according to UAE- Ministry
Of Foreign Trade.
