Introduction Types of Transducer Applications

TransducersTransducer convert nonelectrical quantity into an electrical signal in order to use electrical methods and techniques for measurements, manipulation or control

An instrumentation system consists of:Input deviceSignal conditioningOutput device

Passive Transducers Passive transducers produce variation in some

electrical parameter which can be measured as a voltage or current variation.

Self-Generating Transducers Self-Generating transducers produce an analog

voltage or current when stimulated by some physical form of energy. They do not require external power.

Resistance Transducer

Capacitance Transducer

Inductance Transducer

Voltage and current Transducer.

Potentiometers are variable resistance devices.

A change in the linear or angular displacement of a potentiometer varies the effective length of its conductor, and therefore the resistance of the device.

Potentiometers have a tendency for nonlinearity, and care must be taken when a high degree of accuracy is required.

Trimmer potentiometers are often built into the circuit to adjust the maximum and minimum output voltage to correspond to the maximum and minimum displacements of the measurement potentiometer.

Potentiometric transducers are widely used for sensing displacement and velocity (both linear and angular)

They also have various applications in automotive industry, environmental monitoring, control, and measurements
