What is POVERTY?

• Poverty is scarcity, dearth, or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money.

• The World Bank defined the new international poverty line as $1.25 a day.

Alarming facts about POVERTY in INDIA

• India is estimated to have a third of the world's poor.

• More than395.84 million people living below the poverty line in India, 75 % of them in the rural areas.

• According to World Bank estimates, 849 million 68.7 % of India's population lives on less than $2 a day.

• India accounts for 50 per cent of the world's hungry.

• Over 46 per cent of Indian children are undernourished.

• Across India 74 children died before they reached the age of five for every 1,000 live births in 2005-06

• India has been ranked 65, way below neighbouring countries like China and Pakistan, in a new Global Hunger Index by the International Food Policy Research Institute.

Amazed???

Steps to be taken We need to have Education for

everyone. Spread awareness Better inventions. Control on population. Remove corruption And we need to

“complain less and give more”.

• If you think your salary is low, how about her?

•If you think you suffer in life, do you suffer as much as he does?

Someone got you ADIDAS instead of NIKE?

They have only one brand !

Does studying annoy you?

But not them !!!!

Do you hate vegetables?

They starve from hunger !

CONCLUSION

• We are fortunate that we have much more than what we need to be contended.

• So don’t waste any of the resources that you have.• Lets try not to feed this endless cycle of

consumerism and immorality in which this “modern and advanced society” ignores the other two thirds of our brother and sisters.
