ABOUT THE AUTHOR Munshi

Premchand generally regarded as the foremost Hindi-Urdu writer during the early twentieth century. He wrote about 300 short stories.

Resignation is a short story written by Munshi Premchand . Resignation is a real extension of the theme of dignity of workplace. It tells us about the employer-employee relationship and how far the employee is bound to the employer.

Fatehchand was a POOR clerk with more control over himself. His name meant winner .But the bitter experiences in his life proved that he is Harrchand means loser.

Fatehchand had no sons; only three daughters.

One day when he returned from the office the messenger came there sent by Saheb.

Sharda(wife of Fatehchand) didn’t like the saheb because he always sent for her husband after the office time.

He could not walk fast with the messenger. But he walked fast he could and reached the bungalow.

Saheb shouted at him asking why he was late. He ordered the peon to catch his ears. He ask him to fetch a file from the office he didn’t mention the file.

When he reached the home Sharda asked him why he was late.Then Fatehchand told her all the things happened there and added that he had hit the Saheb. She appreciated him.

When Fatehchand reached the bungalow, the Saheb having his dinner. When he saw him he got angry and shouted at him.

Fatehchand ordered the saheb to hold his ears and if not ,would be beaten.

When Saheb tried to snatch the stick from his hands, he at once gave a solid blow on saheb's head.Saheb staggerd.

Fatehchand told that he would never work under a wicked man like him and was going to resign.

He had tasted the pleasure of true victory. This was the first triumph of his life.
