What is Public Speaking?

Public Speaking is the process of speaking to a group of people in a structured,deliberate,manner intended to inform, influence, or entertain the listeners.

Types:

Public Speaking such as Election Rally,Seminar,Meeting,Presentation etc.

PURPOSE

The purpose of Public Speaking can range from simply transmitting information,to motivating people and to act upon it.

Glossophobia

The common fear of Public speaking is called Glossophobia (Stage fright).

“There are two types of speakers: those that are nervous and those that are liars.”

Feeling some nervousness before giving a speech is natural and even beneficial,but too much nervousness can be harmful.

Benefits of Public Speaking

Self confidence.New oppurtunities.Ability to lead.Have a rare and valued skill.Improve your quality of life.

10 Tips for Public Speaking

Know the needs of your audience and match your contents to their needs.

Body language is important for e.g. such as hand gesture, facial expression.

Speak with conviction as if you really believe in what you are saying.

Maintain sincere eye contact with your audience.

Speak to your audience, listen to their questions, respond to their reactions, adjust and adapt.

Pause – Allow yourself and audience a little to reflect and think.

Use audio-visual aids to enhance your presentation.

Have handouts ready and give them out at the appropriate time.

Terminate your presentation with an interesting remark and leave your listeners with a positive impression and a sense of compleition.
