KAIZEN AND PROBLEMS

A3

ORGANIZING KAIZEN THE METHOD

This case takes place in a Danish financial organization over the course of 2½ months, and focuses on the core processes “money in” and “money out”.

SituationThe processes in scope are highly critical to core business and customer perception. They were under suspicion for being highly complex and at high risk for errors. The money in must be visible on the portal within a couple of days, and money out must be executed correctly and on a timely manner.

ComplicationMany potential points of failure in the processes, much dependencies on specific employees to run daily operations within the processes, and lots of manual control and follow up results in risky core processes.

Key QuestionCan we execute our core processes with less risk of failure and with more certainty of timeliness?

Note: Structure from Barbara Miintos “Pyramid Principle”, which you learn more about in the Lean IT Kaizen course.

4. Hands-on Case Lean IT Kaizen

Key activities• Mobilizing and preparing for the Kaizen improvement work and events• Ensuring management support and alignment• Preparing and mobilizing for the subsequent implementation and control

work

Preparation for the events• Identifying the general source of improvements• Mobilizing VOC, VOR, VOP, VOE etc• Qualifying the situation: Is there a gap, do we know the causes, do we

know the solutions?• Identifying the Kaizen team roles: Sponsor, lead, team (5-8, well… 20…)• Preparing for the Kaizen events (location, attendees, artefacts)• Coordinating for management leverage and support
