The latest Erasmus statistics released by the European Commission published in July 2014 reveal that nearly 270,000 students - a new record - benefitted from EU grants to study or train abroad in 2012-2013. While studying at another university continues to be the most popular choice, one in five students (55,000) opted for Erasmus job placements in companies. The three most popular destinations for Erasmus students in 2012-2013 were Spain, Germany and France. Countries sending the highest number of students as a proportion of their graduate population were Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Finland, Latvia and Spain.
"For 27 years, Erasmus has enabled students to spend time abroad to broaden their horizons and improve their skills. The latest figures show that Erasmus is more popular than ever. As well as contributing to a sense of belonging to the European family, the skills which Erasmus promotes also help students to boost their employability and career prospects. Our new Erasmus+ programme will enable even more young people to study, train, work or volunteer abroad in the next seven years," said Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth.
Erasmus is not just an exchange scheme for students: in 2012-2013 more than 52,600 academic and administrative staff received funding from Erasmus to teach or train abroad. The experience they gain not only benefits the individual concerned but also the quality of teaching and learning at their home institution when they return. Some 500 staff from businesses - an increase of more than 20% from the previous year – also received Erasmus support to teach at higher education institutions abroad, highlighting the growing interest in aligning education and training to the needs of the labour market.
The new Erasmus+ programme will provide grants for 4 million people, including 2 million higher education students and 300,000 staff over the next seven years (2014-2020). It will also fund 135,000 student and staff exchanges between Europe and partner countries worldwide. The expanded programme, which includes Erasmus and similar mobility schemes for other groups including apprentices and volunteers, puts more emphasis on linguistic support, more flexible rules for grants, as well as specific additional support for people with special needs, from disadvantaged backgrounds and remote areas.

The PRAXIS Newsletter for Students was launched in 2008 because ENCATC strongly believes in supporting student mobility as a way for students of cultural management to gain professional experience and hone their skills in another cultural environment.
To date, ENCATC has produced 56 issues of PRAXIS, proposing a variety of internship offers across the globe and across the arts and cultural sector. “ENCATC is a cross sectorial network and this is also reflected in the choice of internship and building capacity offers included in PRAXIS. From heritage and museums, to cultural and creative industries, performing arts, culture in external relations, and more, PRAXIS tries to cover all fields of arts and culture,” says ENCATC Secretary General, Giannalia Cogliandro Beyens. “We also pride ourselves on finding interesting opportunities around the globe. This not only fosters mobility, but also contributes to the internationalisation of careers of young managers and the development of mutual understanding, trust and tolerance.”
So far, PRAXIS has included 748 opportunities in 50 countries for students studying arts and cultural management so they can internationalise and professionalise their early careers. Broken down these opportunities
include: 23 job offers; 178 capacity building workshops, academies, summer schools, seminars, etc.; and 547 internships. Each year, ENCATC also does several interviews with students to share their experiences about doing a traineeship abroad.
For students who are just beginning to enter the cultural field, PRAXIS also serves as a catalogue of different cultural players in different countries. The archives* can be useful for students to research and gain a better understanding of arts and cultural organisations, learn about the skills, competences and attributes demanded in the field, and prepare spontaneous candidatures. “I think the PRAXIS Newsletter is a great way to get acquainted with the variety of internship offers from different countries and organisations, which most of us as students who are new to the cultural sector haven't really heard of before," said Nino Nikoleishvili from Georgia who studied at ENCATC member institution University of Bologna in Italy.

AR-TUR is het centrum voor architectuur, stedelijkheid en landschap in de Kempen. AR-TUR levert via prikkelende initiatieven en ontwikkelingstrajecten een bijdrage aan een klimaat waarin kwalitatieve architectuur, s t e d e l i j k h e i d e n l a n d s c h a p e e n vanzelfsprekende plaats krijgen. AR-TUR werpt zich op als een vrijhaven en als een inspiratieplatform voor professionele actoren en voor het brede publiek.
In 2014 werken we aan de trajecten Landschap, Wonen, Opdrachtgeverschap, Duurzaamheid, Publieksvorming en starten we AR-TUR in opdracht. In het najaar organiseren we hierbinnen verschillende activiteiten zoals lezingavonden en een tentoonstelling, we presenteren architectuurkaarten, stellen publicaties samen en organiseren een publieksmoment rond Wonen. In het kader van deze activiteiten en de voorbereidingen voor het programma van 2015 biedt AR-TUR een

Textile Museum of Canada in Toronto Deadline: 2-4 months before start of the internship
The Textile Museum of Canada is one of Toronto's most engaging visual arts organisations. With more than 12,000 objects from more than 200 countries and regions, the TMC's permanent collection celebrates cultural diversity and includes traditional fabrics, garments, carpets and related artifacts such as beadwork and basketry. The Museum offers a broad variety of exhibitions including themed shows based on our permanent collection and contemporary exhibitions of the work of Canadian and international artists.
Profile: The Museum offers unpaid internships to students and recent graduates interested in exploring careers in the cultural sector. Tasks: The tasks and responsibilities of the intern will depend on the museum department in which the internship takes place. Applicants may apply for the following internship positions:
Education Intern: involves working with
the Education Coordinator and volunteer educators to support the school visits program. The 44th edition of the International Film Festival
Rotterdam will take place from 21 January to 15 February 2015 in Rotterdam. The festival has grown to become one the largest audience driven film festivals in the world, while maintaining its focus on innovative filmmaking. The Smithsonian Institution has two museums of Asian art: the Freer Gallery of Art, which opened to the public in 1923, and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, which welcomed its first visitors in 1987. Both are physically connected by an underground passageway and ideologically linked through the study, exhibition, and sheer love of Asian art. In addition, the Freer Gallery contains an important collection of nineteenth century American art punctuated by James McNeill Whistler's Peacock Room, perhaps one of the earliest (and certainly one of the most controversial) art installations on record.

WHAT IS ENCATC? ENCATC is an independent membership organization representing approximately 100 higher education institutions and cultural organisations in over 40 countries. It was founded in 1992 to represent, advocate and promote cultural management and cultural policy in higher education and to create platforms of discussion and exchange at the European and international level. We are an international non-profit organisation, an official UNESCO partner NGO, and an “Observer” to the Steering Committee for Culture of the Council of Europe. We cooperate closely with our partners at UNESCO, the Council of Europe, the European Commission and the European Parliament as well as with the European Cultural in Africa, the Asia–Pacific region, North America, Latin America and the Caribbean.
FOSTERING STUDENT MOBILITY: PRAXIS is a “Members Only” newsletter offering internship opportunities for students and young graduates from ENCATC programmes in the cultural sector in Europe and beyond. ENCATC does not provide any grant or reimbursement to support the internships promoted in PRAXIS.
