Title: The best of both worlds.

Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him.

She had a sister named Marywho sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.

Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said,“Lord, do you not care

that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.”

The Lord said to her in reply,“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.

There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part

and it will not be taken from her.”

Gospel Passage - Lk. 10: 38-42

[ ]

The classic Martha and Mary story shows us what our priorities ought to be:

Christ first, then everything else follows.

[ ]

But have we really understood what this means?

Let's take the Martha and Mary story

to the 21st century...

The modern day Martha……Lives in a go go go world

The modern day Martha……Instant and on-demand everything

The modern day Martha……Multitasking, technologically equipped, apps galore

The modern day Martha……Do it yourself... with just your phone

Rating by religious standards: missing the point.

Rating by modern man's standards: Productive, efficient, successful.[

] [ ]

The modern day Mary…

[ ]

Rating by religious standards: Priceless.

Rating by modern man's standards: noble... but worth the effort? [

]

Are we missing something here?

Is there really such a stark contrast?

Are we missing something here?

Is there really such a stark contrast?Of course not!

[ ]Man's life cannot just be a go go go life.

Man's life cannot just be a go go go life.

Nor can it be pure meditation.[ ]

The key here: BALANCE.[ ]

God is inviting us to live our lives by balancing out these two realities.

But it's not just programming time for God and time for activity.[ ]

[ ] But it's not just programming time for God and time for activity. It's a different type of balance.

It's putting God at the fulcrum... the foundation...

on which everything else stands.

[ ]It shouldn’t be “pray then work”With God as the foundation…

It should be “pray in order to work”…[ ]It shouldn’t be “pray then work”

It should be “pray in order to work”…It shouldn’t be “pray then work”

[ ]This is the better part.

And perhaps these two worlds aren’t really that separate at all…[ ]

And perhaps these two worlds aren’t really that separate at all…

but two realities of the same world.[ ]

We just have to learn how to build it on the better part.

The question now is: [ How will you build your life on the better part? ]

The question now is: [ How will you build your life on the better part? ]

Some options:• Daily prayer for about 5 minutes each morning• Say a decade of the rosary at your preferred time of the day• Setting a 5-minute break to pray within your morning and afternoon work schedule• Read a passage of the Gospel before heading off to work
