Salt for Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
I am always amazed at the timeliness of the Scripture passages from the lectionary! Three weeks ago the Pentecost readings helped us to get beyond being “locked up” in our upper
rooms and empowered us in our discipleship. Last week’s Trinity readings helped us to look at the perfect example of community as we personally strive to work through peace and justice issues in our nation. And this weekend the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ reminds us of two central pillars of our faith: That Christ is really present in the Eucharistic species of the Precious Blood and consecrated Host, and that in receiving these, we are called to become that same real presence to our world.
I am sure that we look at gathering for Mass and receiving the Eucharist differently than we did at the beginning of March—at least I hope so! Possibly “absence makes the heart grow fonder” would characterize what many of us are feeling. But what we didn’t miss were examples of “being” the Body of Christ to others. The phone calls and visits to elderly and homebound and delivering meals and finding ways to reach out were all examples of being the Body of Christ. It was Saint Augustine who said of the Eucharist “See what you believe, become what you see.” As we celebrate this great gift of our faith, we pray for a deeper understanding and appreciation of the sacramental presence of the Body of Christ, that we might become more effective signs of that presence in our world that so desperately needs us.

Pray for all the Parishioners of the Emmaus Pastorate!
The Church’s social teaching is a rich treasure of wisdom about building a just society and living lives of holiness amidst the challenges of modern society. Modern Catholic social teaching has been articulated through tradition of papal, conciliar, and episcopal documents. The depth and richness of this tradition can be understood best through a direct reading of these documents. In these brief reflections, we wish to highlight several of the key themes that are at the heart of our Catholic social tradition. This week we highlight the Life and Dignity of the Human Person: The Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. This belief is the foundation of all the principles of our social teaching. In our society, human life is under direct attack from abortion and euthanasia. The value of human life is being threatened by cloning, embryonic stem cell research, and the use of the death penalty. The intentional targeting of civilians in war or terrorist attacks is always wrong. Catholic teaching also calls on us to work to avoid war. Nations must protect the right to life by finding increasingly effective ways to prevent conflicts and resolve them by peaceful means. We believe that every person is precious, that people are more important than things, and that the measure of every institution is whether it threatens or enhances the life and dignity of the human person. Join us next week for “Call to Family, Community and Participation.”
Stewardship—The Scriptures today remind us that “we, many though we are, are one body for we all partake of the one loaf.” How are we using our gifts of time and talent to build up the Body of Christ?
Congratulations to~ Trace and Karie Alshouse, whose
daughter, Juliette Lee, was baptized at St. Mary on May 31.

Faith Over Fear An Emmaus Pastorate COVID Committee has been appointed with the task of maintaining an up-to-date understanding of COVID-19, identifying mitigation strategies and responding to the changing landscape. The
committee will monitor the COVID-19 infection rates and review recommendations from a variety of sources The committee members will share a wide variety of COVID information through the bulletin to include answering questions and sharing resources. Questions can be submitted to the committee through the Bulletin by calling a committee member. This question was submitted last week—A parishioner is concerned about reporting cases of COVID. If a parishioner attends Mass on the weekend and comes down with COVID on Monday, what procedure does he/she follow? Answer—Notify your committee member who would call the Clayton County or Delaware County Public Health nurse to report the situation. The Public Health nurses will follow up as required.
