SNA’S CREDIBILITY IS AT STAKE WITH STANDARDS

SNA’s GOALS on

STANDARDS

1. Eliminate “Time and Place” Rule – giving the Secretary of Agriculture the authority to regulate all foods and beverages

2. Apply the Dietary Guidelines to all foods and beverages sold on campus

3. Uniform national interpretation of Dietary Guidelines

4. Level playing field within the school on nutrition standards

WHY UNIFORMITY ?1. Kids need the same nutrients CA to SD to NY

2. Federal reimbursements are low—$2.47 for free—less than the cost of a latte

3. School food services need the revenue from competitive sales

4. A variety of state and local standards will increase costs for industry and school food services
