Hazcheck Portal
• The process by which containership operators manage partner
Exis Technologies
• The process by which containership operators manage partner line bookings is slow and error-prone. Critical checks must be made against port restrictions for voyage legs, ship and line restrictions, availability of slots.
• Exis is automating the process with a shipping community portal.
Hazcheck Portal
• Participating lines upload and maintain operator, vessel and port restrictions
• Each line controls its own data and authorises password-controlled access for partner lines to check for DG compliance and accept a provisional booking
Exis Technologies
compliance and accept a provisional booking
• Lines can download the complete set of partner restrictions and check the provisional booking locally
• Participating lines will have instant access to continually updated partner line restrictions, searchable by UN Class, UN Number or Proper Shipping Name.
• Checks include classification, packaging, validation of mixed DG against IMDG Code requirements and 49 CFR checks for US shipments under IMDG Code

documentation and information required to be able to ratify or accede to the 2010 Protocol.
Exis Technologies role

• Categorise, merge and quality assure names without exact correspondence from varying sources
• Produce a consolidated list of all HNS including classification criteria and whether substance qualifies as contributing cargo.
• Allocate substances to HNS Account

HNS Finder HNS data comes from several sources. Common field is the
substance name.
No exact correspondence between the way names are written in the different sources. Punctuation differences, singular and plural forms, abbreviation of prefixes such as normal- to n-, descriptions of normal or iso versus 1- or 2-, general
Exis Technologies
descriptions of normal or iso versus 1- or 2-, general descriptions or specific isomers.
As each source is added, the task is to identify whether a name is new or corresponds to a previously encountered name. Each source can also include differing numbers of alternative names for a substance.
A substance can be in one or several of seven HNS categories depending on which sources it comes from. A synonym of a substance appears in the same categories as its other entries, even if the particular synonym does not appear in all the sources Provide the data set to populate HNS Finder.
Bulk liquids proper shipping names - chapters 17 and 18 of the IBC Code are in category (ii) unless they are listed as out of scope. Those in chapter 17 are also in category (iii). Synonyms in chapter 19 are in the same categories as their proper shipping names.
All names in the MEPC.2 tripartite agreement lists are in category (ii)
All names in the IMDG substance index are in category (iv)
Exis Technologies
All names in the IMDG substance index are in category (iv) except for the radioactive materials and the ‘transport prohibited’ entries. Bulk flammable liquids (class or subrisk 3, if also covered by IBC Code and hence in category (ii)) are also in Category (vi).
Category (i) is for oils listed in Appendix I to Annex I of MARPOL, IMDG provides some alternative names for these.
Category (v) is for gases listed in IGC Code.
Bulk solids from the IMSBC code only appear in the list if they are also in IMDG, category (iv). They are in category (vii) as well as (iv).
