PAL – Comment from a visitor

“I attended a few PAL sessions ... It is a new approach to teaching. It was fascinating to watch Ms. Laxmi conduct lessons using the multiple-group teaching method. Activities developed at three levels of complexity assigned to three groups functioning at three different levels were an insight for me into the details of a teaching learning environment. PAL sessions have strongly reinforced my belief in the limitlessness of a child’s abilities.”

Work Awareness and YouWAY

• 15 to 18 year old

adolescents• Preparation to enter

the World of Work• WAY has been

adapted and

expanded and

is called the Jiva

programme now

Livelihood, Career and Jiva

The word Jiva means ‘life’ in most of the Indian languages.

The Jiva programme is based on the premise that a healthy career is integrally connected to one’s life.

Jiva: The overall objective

To develop resources and build capacity

for the establishment of a

valid and culturally relevant

career counselling and livelihood planning

system for the Indian context.

The Jiva FrameworkThe Jiva ‘spiral’! • Career and livelihood

development occur in a spiral! Over time, one returns to where one started, but in qualitatively different manner.

• Developing upon previous development, one learns from the past and looks to the future.

Mental ‘tick’ marks! • Healthy development means Learning to assess opportunities. • It means skills to adapt and be flexible.

The changing and the unchanged. Healthy careers and livelihoods are in tune with a dynamic and moving world and at the same time grounded in values that are constant and unchanging.

Green and blue! Development is healthy when it is sensitive to planet Earth and sets the sky as its limits!

Minutes of the 80th Meeting of the Board of Directorsof the International Association for Educational and Vocational Guidance - IAEVG

It was immediately obvious that this conference had particular significance for both IAEVG and India. For IAEVG it was the first large conference ever held in Asia and for India the very first conference ever held to address careers and guidance issues. Certainly the conference appeared to act as a catalyst for career development across India and since this event other careers themed conferences are being organised in other parts of the world.
