Principles of Play

Principles of AttackWidth- When a team is in possession of the

ball it has to use all the area available in which to play

Depth- The player in possession of the ball must always have several option to pass the ball forwards and back

WidthBy attacking down the sides of the pitch/court, the

defenders are forced to cover a larger area allowing

more space in the penalty box for the attackers to exploit.

DepthWhen attacking it is important to

have passing options. Players forward and behind the ball.

Depth In badminton depth in attack is important, so the

whole length of the court is covered when an attacking opportunity arises. A front and back set up is used to provide depth.

Width, Depth & MobilityThis piece of play has all the

principles of attacking play.

Defensive PrinciplesDelay in defence-This principle of play is where

you have to hold up your opponent by not diving in to the tackle (jockey them), to allow your team mates time to get back and defend.

Depth in defenceThis principle of defensive play, is where you have cover

behind players, in case they get beaten by the attacker.

A Zone defence allows players to cover team mates, to create depth in defence.
