Dr. Maskey has expertise in the perinatalepidemiology, health policy and planning, health systems research andhealth policy development. He was a member of Advisory Council forHealth Research of World Health Organization South East Asia Region.Between 2006 and 2009, he was the Executive Chair to the Nepal HealthResearch Council, Government of Nepal. He has served as AmbassadorExtraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Federal Democratic Republic ofNepal to People’s Republic of China (2012- 2016).
Dr. Sandro Galea, DPHRobert A. Knox ProfessorDean, School of Public HealthBoston University
Dr. Galea is a physician and an epidemiologist. Prior to his appointment atBoston University, Dr. Galea served as the Gelman Professor and Chair of theDepartment of Epidemiology at the Columbia University Mailman School ofPublic Health. Dr Galea has a medical degree from the University of Toronto,and graduate degrees from Harvard University and Columbia University; hehas an honorary doctorate from the University of Glasgow. He previously heldseveral academic and leadership positions. He has published over 650scientific journal articles, 50 chapters, and 12 books and his research has beenfeatured extensively in current periodicals and newspapers. He was named oneof TIME magazine’s epidemiology innovators and has been listed by ThomsonReuters as one of the “World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” for theSocial Sciences.

Dr. Clemens led the team that developedfirst low-cost oral vaccine against cholera, which was recently deployed inHaiti. In recognition of his work, he was awarded with Sabin Gold Medal in2010. He has published more than 300 peer-reviewed papers, and serves on theeditorial boards of several journals. He is an elected member of the AmericanEpidemiology Society and a Fellow of both the American College ofEpidemiology and the Infectious Disease Society of America. A former researchscientist at icddr,b from 1983-1988, Dr. Clemens transitioned into the role fromhis previous position as professor and vice-chairman of Epidemiology andFounding Director of the Center for Global Infectious Diseases at the Universityof California, Los Angeles, Fielding School of Public Health.

Dr. Elizabeth E. Hatch, PhDProfessor of EpidemiologySchool of Public Health,Boston University
Dr. Hatch has been principal investigator of three NIH-funded grants toevaluate factors related to reproductive health. Her research interests arefocused on factors related to fertility, pregnancy outcomes and long-term healtheffects of parental exposures. She teaches cancer epidemiology and hasconducted research on several cancer sites. Prior to joining the faculty at BU in2000, she was an investigator at the National Cancer Institute, where she led alarge cohort study on the health risks of exposure to the synthetic hormone,diethylstilbestrol (DES) among women exposed during pregnancy and theiroffspring exposed in utero.

Dr. Rothman has 45 years of professional experience in Epidemiologicresearch. His research included work on the epidemiology of cancer,cardiovascular disease, birth defects, environmental epidemiology andmethodological, conceptual and ethical issues in epidemiology. Dr. Rothman isthe author of two widely used textbooks of epidemiologic methods. Hereceived American Public Health Association’s Abraham Lilienfeld Award for2002. He is also a professor of epidemiology at Boston University School ofPublic Health.

Nepal faces triple burden of health problems (communicable diseases, non-
communicable diseases and trauma). Generation of strong evidence is
required in these sectors for policy and health action. For this, the capacity
of health managers, academicians and students needs to be improved in the
field of epidemiology which will be helpful for evidence based practice.
The major objectives of the conference and training are To share epidemiological methods used in health care settings, highlight
epidemiological transition phases and its use in evidence based policyand action.
