Project High LineThe High Line is located on Manhattan's West Side. It runs 1.5 miles from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to 34th Street, between 10th & 11th Avenues. Section 1 of the High Line, which opened to the public on June 9, 2009, runs from Gansevoort Street to 20th Street.

Converting each section of the High Line from an out-of-use railroad trestle to a public landscape more than two years of construction, in a multi-step process. Much of the High Line is still an active construction site. While Section 1 of the High Line is open to the public, Section 2 (20th Street to 30th Street) is currently under construction. Section 2 is projected to open in 2011.

Student DesignThe Second Annual High Line Design Competition at the Lab School in Chelsea:The competition is the culmination of a multi-week geometry unit in two of Ms. Rodriguez and Ms. Whelan’s math and science classes that uses the High Line as a model for teaching the students about scale, ratio, and area. All of the student’s designs for the High Line had to be to scale, incorporate native plants and grasses, and honor High Line planning principals.

PARK(ing) Day is an annual, worldwide event that inspires city dwellers everywhere to transform metered parking spots into temporary parks for the public good.

Re-claiming space for people, not cars.
