Chapter One: How Smoking Affects your Body

The Smoking Addiction The addiction to smoking is a drug addiction which raises at present a big problem in health

service because of the dangers that represent the constituents of the tobacco as well for the

smoker as for his circle of acquaintances. Tobacco is one of the most widely abused

substances in the world. It is highly addictive, even though nearly 70 percent of smokers want

to quit!

Nicotine is one of thousands of chemicals in cigarettes. It's addictive and causes most of the

withdrawal symptoms you feel when you first stop. This is the physical part of the smoking

addiction. When you use tobacco products, nicotine is quickly absorbed into your

bloodstream. Within 10 seconds of entering your body, the nicotine reaches your brain. It

causes the brain to release adrenaline, creating a buzz of pleasure and energy.

But this buzz fades quickly though, and leaves you feeling tired, a little down, and wanting

again. This feeling is what makes you light up the next cigarette. Since your body is able to

build up a high tolerance to nicotine, you’ll need to smoke more and more cigarettes in order

to get the nicotine’s pleasurable effects and prevent withdrawal symptoms.

Nicotine addiction is also a physical dependency. Withdrawal symptoms are severe and most

smokers cannot quit on their first attempt because of these symptoms. The most severe

withdrawal symptoms occur within the first week although the craving for cigarettes usually

persists for months and even years. The desire to smoke tends to be especially strong when a

person is under stress. The typical withdrawal symptoms are:

Painful headaches

Anxiety and irritability

Difficult concentration

Sleeping disorder

Hunger

Decreased heart rate

Blood pressure

Nicotine craving

The most common reason given for quitting smoking is our future personal health. Other

reasons for quitting were life-style changes cost of cigarettes, having a baby, and smoke-

related illness or death of a friend or family member.

The most common reason current smokers give for not quitting is lack of will-power. This up

and down cycle repeats over and over, leading to addiction. Addiction keeps people smoking

even when they want to quit. Breaking addiction is harder for some people than others. Many

people need more than one try in order to quit. They need a powerful and effective technique,

with proven results, that resolve all emotional issue, and associations that your brain is

trapped in.

Smoking harms nearly every organ in the body, including the heart, blood vessels, lungs,

eyes, mouth, reproductive organs, bones, bladder, and digestive organs. Focus will be on the

most dangerous damages can smoking affect your body.

Smoking destroys your Lung Smoking destroyed the natural system of cleaning and repair of your lungs and traps the

chemicals which cause the cancer.

When the natural system of cleaning and repair of your lungs is damaged, germs, the dust and

the chemicals of the smoke of cigarette stay in your lungs. You become at risk of developing

a chronic cough, an infection of the breast, the lung cancer and the COPD (Chronic

Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)

Smoking damages in permanent way alveoli (bags of air) lungs.

Alveoli, small bags of air at the end of lungs, are conceived as of very small elasticated

balloons. When you inspire, alveoli help your body to absorb the oxygen and, when you

expire, to get rid of some carbon dioxide.

When Smoking damages your lungs, alveoli lose of their elasticity. Your lungs have more

difficulty absorbing the oxygen and getting rid of the dioxide of carbon. When alveoli are so

damaged, you can feel breathlessness and a fatigue. Your heart has to work more to distribute

oxygen that your body needs. In time, these damages can lead to the COPD and to cardiac

diseases.

Smoking hurts your heart Most people know that cigarette and tobacco smoking increases the risk of lung cancer and

breathing problems, but few realize that it also greatly increases the risk of heart disease,

peripheral vascular disease.

Smoking tobacco is the strongest risk factor for developing heart disease.

In fact, the risk of having a heart attack is six times higher in smokers, for both men and

women, than in people who never smoked. World-wide, smoking is thought to account for

almost 40% of first heart attacks.

Research has shown that smoking increases heart rate, tightens major arteries, and can cause

an irregular heart rhythm, all of which make your heart work harder. Smoking also raises

blood pressure, which increases the risk of stroke in people who already have high blood

pressure.

The monoxide of carbon decreases the blood contribution in oxygen pulling in the long run,

incapacity of the heart to work normally.

The chemicals in tobacco harm your blood cells. They also can damage the function of your

heart and the structure and function of your blood vessels. This damage increases your risk of

atherosclerosis, the coronary thrombosis, a hurt of the heart by obstruction of the coronary

arteries.

Tobacco products contain chemicals that irritate the blood vessel walls, increasing

inflammation, damaging and "stiffening" the vessel walls, all conditions that are associated

with atherosclerosis.

Smoking increases adrenaline levels, which raises the blood pressure and cardiac stress,

causing constriction of blood vessels.

One of the best ways to reduce your risk of heart disease is to avoid tobacco smoke. No matter

how much or how long you've smoked, quitting will benefit you.

Quitting smoking will reduce your risk of developing and dying from heart disease. Over

time, quitting also will lower your risk of atherosclerosis and blood clots. If you smoke and

already have heart disease, quitting smoking will reduce your risk of sudden cardiac death, a

second heart attack, and death from other chronic diseases.

Smoking Causes Cancer

Smoking is by far the most important preventable cause of cancer in the world. Smoking

accounts for one in four cancer deaths, and nearly a fifth of all cancer cases.

Smoking causes more than four in five cases of lung cancer. Lung cancer has one of the

lowest survival rates of all cancers, and is the most common cause of cancer death. The good

news is that most of these deaths are preventable, by giving up smoking in time.

Smoking also increases the risk of over a dozen other cancers including cancers of the mouth,

larynx pharynx (upper throat), nose and sinuses, oesophagus (food pipe), liver, pancreas,

stomach, kidney, bladder, cervix and bowel, as well as one type of ovarian cancer and some

types of leukemia. There is also some evidence that smoking could increase the risk of breast

cancer.

For example, the most serious damage smoking causes in your mouth and throat is an

increased risk of cancer in your lips, tongue, throat, voice box and gullet (oesophagus). More

than 93% of oropharyngeal cancers (cancer in part of the throat) are caused by smoking.

Smokers have also an increased chance of getting stomach cancer or ulcers. Smoking can

weaken the muscle that controls the lower end of your gullet (oesophagus) and allow acid

from the stomach to travel in the wrong direction back up your gullet, a process known as

reflux.

Smoking is a significant risk factor for developing kidney cancer, and the more you smoke the

greater the risk.

The good news is that when you stop using tobacco, even after many years of use, you can

greatly reduce your risk of developing head and neck cancer. Once you've been smoke free

for 20 years, your risk of head and neck cancer is reduced to that of a non-smoker.

Smoking Affects your Fertility If you are a smoker and are trying to get pregnant, stop smoking now. Quitting may be one of

the best things you can do for your health and for your fertility

Smokers are more likely to have fertility problems than nonsmokers. If you smoke for many

years, or smoke many cigarettes per day, your risk for fertility problems is increased.

When you smoke, more than 7000 chemicals spread throughout your entire body and all of

your organs. This can lead to fertility problems, including ovulation problems, genetic issues,

damage to your reproductive organs, damage to your eggs or premature menopause, increased

risk of cancer and increased risk of miscarriage

In addition, smokers that try fertility treatments tend to take longer to get pregnant. Smokers

are also more likely to give birth to babies with health problems.

Fertility often improves for women after they stop smoking. Studies show that female

smokers can increase their chances of conceiving by quitting at least two months before trying

to get pregnant. Quit smoking and you may just find it easier to get pregnant.

Smoking causes also fertility problems for men, men that smoke cigarettes are at an increased

risk for the following male fertility problems like lower sperm count and sperm motility

problems, hormonal issues, erectile dysfunction, if you are trying to get pregnant without

success and your partner smokes, encourage him to quit. The sooner he quits, the sooner you

may be able to conceive.

Smoking affects the whole body from your head to your toes, there’s hardly a part of the

human body that’s not affected by the chemicals in the cigarettes you smoke.

But the good news is that when you quit smoking your body begins to repair itself. Ten years

after you quit, your body has repaired most of the damage smoking caused. Those who wait

until cancer or emphysema has set in aren’t so lucky, these conditions are usually fatal. It’s

one more reason to take the big step and quit now and take action.

Chapter Two: Understanding why you smoke

You smoke for Emotional Reasons

This chapter is to help you become aware of mechanisms and reasons that still push you to

smoke against your will. Because the reasons for smoking are mostly psychological, people

are seduced to try tobacco by the glamorization of smoking in the movies and in

advertisements. But addiction to nicotine makes it hard to quit smoking once you have started.

Once the psychological reasons for smoking are eliminated, you can overcome addiction in

two weeks, one way to work in therapy and creating change in a person, is to help the

unconscious to become conscious. Being aware of an internal operation helps to modify,

replace it with a more suitable operating a freer choice.

For the smokers, the cigarette constitutes the only way to manage their stress because to

smoke is for them a source of relaxation and pleasure. The psychic dependence is due to the

sensations of pleasure and satisfaction got by the nicotine on the brain. This phenomenon

pulls then a greater and permanent demand by the body of the effects of tobacco. This psychic

dependence is not the same for all the smokers. However, the effect of the nicotine on the

brain is fast and the mechanism of dependence can begin during the first consumptions.

The physical dependence is also due to the effect of the nicotine on the body. The sensations

of pleasure, relaxation and satisfaction stimulate the brain and lead to a demand increased in

tobacco. In case of absence of the product or the insufficient dose, the body reacts and several

signs appear. These signs establish the syndrome of lack.

Most smokers are completely unaware of why they smoke, consciously at least, but the

subconscious mind works on the basis of these reasons that maintain smoking behavior.

In fact, if you read this, you know smoking is a psychological addiction, not physical.

However, the physical dependence is a good excuse for not having to deal with its internal

reasons.

Let's be clear, if you smoke, and if you want to quit, you can regain control of your life, you

are responsible. Indeed, blaming society, the tobacco industry, nicotine, life and your

environment, etc ... do nothing to help you stop smoking.

If you want to get rid of this habit, it's your responsibility, you have to do something. It is you,

and you alone, who hold the key to your success .By Discovering why you want to smoke,

you become aware, helps you take back control over your addiction.

You smoke to identify to a Group and Values One reason pushes you to smoke is identification, it s a tendency to define your identity in

terms of certain parameters.

Most people start smoking to identify with a group, figures, models, or even a culture and

values. How many people have started smoking to be like their friends, their idols, or some

ideal?

Freedom, taking responsibility, empowerment, being rebellious, are values that can push us to

start smoking, the others do, so it must be a good and fun

This is unfortunately the trap of marketing by the tobacco industry.

The problem is when you smoke for so long that you feel that smoking is part of you, that

without tobacco, you would not recognize yourself, or when smoking is associated with some

important values. As family integration ("my family smokes") or otherwise to differentiation

("I smoke not to do as the others"). By quitting smoking, you then feel lost, not to respect

certain values, or simply not knowing who you are.

There is of course a helpful tool to resolve it.

Stop smoking means becoming a Non-smoker with a healthy lifestyle, your New Identity, this

concept will be integrated with your identity, who you want to be. A Non smoker

To manage stress and emotions Because of such unresolved emotions, (that we cover up or deny), most of us can feel at times

that something essential or vital is missing from our life. We often use material objects and

the pursuits of pleasure with food, sex, money, and drugs to try to fill that missing thing.

This missing thing is the Dose of love that you didn’t get (or not enough) in your childhood,

that s why Love is the root of all our problems, and Self-love is the healing of all our problem

The sense of emptiness makes it more difficult for us to appreciate ourselves, appreciates our

uniqueness, goodness, and our value.

Many people addicted, actually looking to manage their stress and emotions. Smoking

becomes an escape from negative emotions, relax, take a moment for yourself, etc...

Many smokers feel that smoking relaxes; of course, this mechanism is not based on smoking,

because smoking is a stimulant. Only the mental and physical process by which they go to

relax includes cigarette. Remove the cigarette, and they no longer know how to manage their

stress! It is therefore necessary to learn other ways to relieve stress.

The word stress, however, is a bit overused to describing many different emotions: anxiety,

anger and fear. The general theory of psychopathology addiction refers to addiction as a way

to compensate for underlying anxiety. This is the case for some smokers. This is why some

people feel very strong emotions by stopping smoking: depression, anxiety, feeling of dying,

etc...

Like when someone is trying to walk after a long time (after a surgery for example), can lose

equilibrium at first, h e s not stable, he falls. So he should learn to walk straight, the need to

stand will disappears after by itself.

If some smokers feel that smoking fills a void, that is their single bubble of oxygen, or the

cigarette is a friend, then emotional techniques are required to learn new ways to feel good,

without tobacco. The thing is that the brain often works with non-logical associations.

When you started smoking, the context in which you were definitely positive: being with

friends, having fun, feeling free and independent, and relax..., you usually, unconsciously

associate the cigarette with those circumstances and this association last. The simple fact to be

aware of this mechanism, you become aware, and learn to feel the same without a cigarette.

Your subconscious learns to associate things. If you live several times a positive context,

bringing a positive inner state as happiness, vacation, relaxation, freedom ...), and each time

the cigarette is present, your brain creates a link.

So when you do not feel the best, and want to find a state of well-being, your brain

automatically thinks of the cigarette, which was associated hundreds of times to relaxation.

This is typically a strategy that strengthens with time, when you smoke 5, 10, 20 years or

older. This association is not logical: the cigarette does not really feel good. It is only an

association, but it works anyway.

In Chapter tree, a self help tool will change your beliefs about smoking, and allows your

subconscious to realize that this process is already in you, and not smoking. You will be able

to understand consciously and change unconsciously, that there is more and other positive and

healthy ways to manage every moment of your life rather than smoking.

Of course, consciously knowing it is one thing. But helping the unconscious to do this work

of reorganization, it requires a deep work on your beliefs, several ways fail to do this, but with

chapter tree tool, your transformation is very effective and fast.

You smoke because of Fear You know now that 70% of smokers want to quit smoking, what's holding them back? There

are fears that are unfounded, rational or not justified, and are yet active.

Fear of the unknown:

When you have been smoking for a long part of your life it is hard to imagine yourself

without a cigarette, when you first quit smoking you do feel scared and that something is

missing but this is the reality of nicotine withdrawal. It is scary but it does not last forever.

Being released from addiction, after years of slavery brings a sense of relief and

accomplishment that had never anticipated the smoker.

With surprise and pleasure, they discover the wonderful fact that there is life after tobacco;

life is healthier, quieter and more enjoyable.

Fear of losing yourself

Being in the initial phase of quitting creates a state of emotional insecurity and doubt yourself

“will I ever be able to survive in our complicated world without my cigarettes?”

The smoker is scared that he just wouldn't be a fun person anymore (he think smoking looked

cool and that smokers were more fun than non-smokers).

He actually saw smoking as being part of his image - it was who he was - a smoker. The fear

of quitting was the fear of not being him. Perhaps even as an adult he thought he was a bit

"cool" smoking. But suddenly he did not want to be defined by being a smoker.

If millions of other people in the world can be non-smokers then so can you. Don't let the fear

of quitting stop you. You deserve to be a healthy person who didn't smell of smoke and had a

chance at a long and healthy life.

Fear of gaining weight

Many people worry about gaining weight when they quit smoking. But not everybody who

quits gains weight

As a result, some smokers admit that they continue smoking just to avoid gaining weight.

Especially woman, they would not tolerate any weight gain. In fact, many women started

smoking in the first place because they thought it might help them stay slim.

But there is nothing to fear, if they do not replace cigarettes with food, they will not overeat.

And if they do not overeat, they most likely won't gain weight. New activities help to cope

with personal smoking triggers that do not involve food, and choosing low calorie, healthy

foods when eating.

The secret of not gaining weight is changing old smoking triggers with new activities, with

emotional coping tools and behaviors that support a healthy, smoke-free lifestyle.

Chapter Tree: The solution

The Technique Principle The cause of all emotions is a disruption of the body's energy system

The basic principle is based on the discovery: Thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and energy are

linked. When you live an emotionally painful situation, your energy is flowing properly along

the meridians.

Have you ever heard of EFT?

EFT is for Emotional Freedom Techniques,

The concept of EFT is relatively simple:

Tapping several specific energy points (points of entry and exit meridians) on the face, upper

body at the same time we fix our attention on the physical suffering or negative emotion that

you want to delete. This method called tapping or emotional acupuncture meridians allows the

release through the combination of conscious statements of the emotion we want to deal with.

EFT is a technique clinically proven already used by thousands of people worldwide to

manage their emotions, used successfully to eliminate all unwanted solicitations such as

cravings for a cigarette , to relieve anxiety, pain, stress, phobias, obesity, past trauma and

many health problems.

(In my book Extreme Self-care, taking care of yourself Inside out ,a long chapter is dedicated

to emotional detox anxiety , guilt, shame, )and belief detox , in all area of life( self-esteem,

money, love success …)

EFT is a gentle technique; you will stop smoking when you succeed to consider your

emotional reasons that forced you to smoke so far...

With EFT is done naturally!

Without suffering,

Without medication,

Without feeling deprived…

In a minute you will learn how stimulating some acupuncture points very easy to locate, you

will decrease your addiction quickly and stop smoking naturally without suffering, without

feeling void, without drugs, without compensating by something else.

EFT works to clear this disruption and eliminate the resulting emotional response and

intensity, restore emotional harmony and offer relief from physical discomfort, focusing on

the problem, while tapping on the energy meridians.

We tap the Negative to eliminate it, and we tap the Positive to reprogram your Mind,

When you focus on the moments that make you want to light a cigarette, by stimulating

appropriate acupuncture points you delete them permanently by re-balancing your energy

system. As you progress inexorably toward the goal that you have set by removing all

tampering.

Clearly this means applied when you feel the need to smoke a cigarette for example when you

need to calm down, this desire stops immediately, freeing you. Instead of thinking that you'll

never quit, you think now you will get the desired results. You will feel this strength and

power in you that this time it is finally possible.

When using this tool?

Each time you feel one of these situations that make you want to smoke

Also Prevention: Before you go to a party where you fear to advance not get to moderate your

impulses when smoking friends go "is a smoke free."

For chronic habits: For example, if you smoke every night drinking your coffee.

By making this decision now, (congratulation again), you reduce your risk of cancer and

disease of lungs and heart.

Furthermore, you stabilize the deterioration of your lungs. On one year having given up the

tobacco, you decrease your risk of death of heart attack by half.

Stop smoking worth it, you worth it!

Let’s tap this addiction!

KC: Karate chop, point on the side of your hand, It’s on the side of your hand opposite your

thumb, about mid-way between your wrist and the base of your little finger. It’s the spot

you’d use to “karate chop” something. Tap this point gently with the first 2 fingers of your

other hand.

TH: Top of the Head, imagine a pole running vertically through the center of your body, tap

gently in the direct center of that point.

EB: Eyebrow, Tap directly on the end of the eyebrow nearest your eye on the same side of

your body as your tapping hand. The point is right where the eyebrow meets the bone that

forms the bridge of your nose.

SE: Side of the eye, this point is located on the bone at the outside of the eye. It’s at the

opposite end of the eyebrow but before the soft area that forms the temple.

UE: Under the eye, Tap on the bone right under your eye, horizontally even with your pupil.

Be very gentle here as this point is often sensitive.

UN: Under the nose, this tapping spot is between the bottom of your nose and your upper lip.

Gently tap it about 3-7 times.

CH: Chin; Tap this point that’s right in the indentation of your chin, between the point of your

chin and your lower lip

CB: Collarbone, The collarbone tapping point is directly on your collarbone, and inch or two

from the hollow of your throat

UA: Under the arm, located approximately 4 inches below the armpit, about mid-bra line for a

woman. You can reach across to tap the opposite side of your body.

The Technique

Tap continuously on the karate chop point on the side of your hand. While saying your set up

statement three times, you have to actually say it out loud.

Even Though I Have (this problem), I love and accept myself

This tapping allows you to tune into your body-mind and your emotions. It gives the trapped

emotional energy a focus and a direction towards release.

Tapping through the points: Use the same pressure as if tapping on a table to make a

drumming sound. Make good physical contact with the tapping points; be gentle because

some of these meridian points can be very tender.

Tap about 3-7 times in each location. Tap with your two hands, both sides of meridians.

Breathe deeply and drink a glass of water. Drink a lot of water before, during, and after

tapping, as the emotional and energetic clearing can be dehydrating. Also, drinking water will

help your energy flow, thereby increasing the effectiveness of EFT.

Note the intensity of the feeling on a scale of 0-10.

0 would be little or no intensity and 10 would mean the feeling is very intense
