African Americans in Congress

During Reconstruction, African Americans began to have power in Virginia’s government, and men of all races could vote.

Jim Crow Laws

Laws passed by southern states that established segregation or separation of the races and reinforced prejudices held by whites.

What is a prejudice?

Unreasonable opinion about someone

Sometimes the white people would call the black people mean names
