Why have I been given this leaflet at a Household Waste Recycling Centre?You have been given this leaflet as you are either a business or have waste from your home which we don’t accept at our recycling centres.

BusinessesHousehold Waste Recycling Centres are funded by the council taxpayer so we can't accept waste from a commercial business. Please contact your district/borough Council to find out about their commercial waste services or contact waste collection companies in your area. These services are subject to a charge.

Household Waste we can't accept at our HWRC's include: More than 50kg of concrete, cement, mortar, rubble, soil and turf from households More than 2 roofing sheets or 2 metres of downpipe (asbestos or other material) Waste left with a householder by a tradesperson - always ask a tradesperson to include waste disposal in their quote Waste from charities Scrap vehicles Items of fitted furniture Entire bathroom suites More than two window frames (with or without glass) from a DIY project More than two doors (interior or exterior) Any waste arising from demolition of wooden garden sheds, fences or greenhouses Soiled pet bedding or pet litter - This poses a health risk to our site staff who routinely open bags to extract recyclable material to reduce waste being disposed of and increase Derbyshire’s recycling rate

A householder planning a major home or garden refurbishment?If you're planning major refurbishment work to your house or garden, we recommend you consider hiring a skip as part of the project. If you do hire a skip and need to place it on the road check with the skip company whether you need to apply for a permit.

This booklet contains a list of local waste and skip hire companies and the types of waste they accept for recycling or

disposal within Derbyshire. This is not an exhaustive list so please do an online search for any other companies available.

If they provide a collection service, if so they must be a registered waste carrier. Check this on www.gov.uk/find-registered-waste-carrier

Don't forget to ask for documentation to show that your waste has been passed on (Waste Transfer Note). Keep all paperwork for at least two years.

Please check that the waste firm you are going to use is licensed to collect/dispose of your waste and will do so in an appropriate way (www.gov.uk/find-registered-waste-carrier).
