Dear Friends:
How vibrant a congregation are we? On Sunday, June 2 Pastor Tom Gollerich, from the Pacifica Synod Office will be conducting a survey as part of our Sunday morning worship. All members are encouraged to fill out the survey and hand it back in that morning. There will be additional opportunities to fill out the surveys.
The survey is intended to measure our relationship with God, our relationship with one another as members of the congregation, and our relationship with our community. The surveys will be sent out to be calculated, and the results will help us focus upon what activities we need to expand to better fulfill our mission as God’s people in this place.
One of the ways we develop closer relationships with God and one another is the annual Labor Day retreat at Luther Glen. This year the retreat will be from Saturday, August 31st – Monday, September 2. This will be the first time members will have an opportunity to meet our new intern: Jennifer Matas (Garcia). Jennifer will be getting married on August 11th and starting her internship at the retreat. Jennifer will be in charge of the evening campfire devotions. This will be an excellent opportunity to get to know her well and welcome her to be a part of Our Redeemer. The camp staff will be providing study sessions that focus upon seeing God in creation, as we spend the weekend in the mountains, and in the midst of the camp farm. This year they have a brand new barn. I will be in Minnesota for the weekend, presiding at the wedding of our niece/godchild. I am hoping for a good turnout for the weekend.
Also coming up this summer. We will be scheduling another Elvis night. This year the theme is Viva Las Vegas. We will have a pot-luck mean, play a little bingo, have an Elvis concert and sing together to the movie: “Viva Las Vegas.” Look for more details in the next newsletter. It will be some time in August.
We will also have a repeat performance of “The 5 love languages.” This time we will offer the program on Saturday evenings in August/September. I will lead an overview of each chapter, we will have homework assignments and reflections each week. The church will provide child-care at a minimal cost so that couples can have a series of “date-nights”, where they can practice showing love to one another. The 5 couples who attended the last session all loved it, and they were the ones to encourage me to offer it again. This is open to friends and non-members. It’s a great way to be intentional about strengthening your marriage and having a good time doing it. Look for details in the next newsletter.
As I write this I am packing for our two week tour of China. As a history teacher, Wendy is particularly excited about visiting historical sites (as am I). We look forward to sharing our experience with the congregation at social events in the future.
Finally, we just concluded our annual Synod Assembly. It was a great time for fellowship, sharing, a
little business, and being inspired by the ministry being done in our Synod. We are making a
difference in our world for the sake of Christ.
In Christ.
