Research Tools

• Database Manager– Enter references by keyboard– Import references from online/CD-Rom databases– Alerts on Sci Direct, Web of Sci etc. can be exported to RM– Can retrieve references by using keywords, authors,jnl title

etc.

• Bibliography Builder– Generate a bibliography formatted for a specific journal– Incorporate appropriate reference in-text citations into

manuscripts2

Where to find Reference Manager

• Logon to the OP Novell Network– ( usually your personnel number and a password)

• Double click on My Computer• Double click on “Appl on ‘Rancor ‘(G:)”• Open up the “Reference Manager 11 Network” folder• Open up the “Program” folder• Double click on InstRM11W.exe• Follow the steps as indicated by the Installation

Under the “Result Format” mark the Direct Export button and click on save.

This will open up a list of available databases

Select the “Export results to Reference Manager”

button and click on “Continue”

Do your search in Zoological Record and mark the references you wish to add to your database

Click on the “Stiffy” icon

Select the “Export to Reference

Manager” button

Decide which references and the format and click on OK

For searches done on CSA save the records as *.txt files .

If the Reference Manager Toolbar does not appear on your screen, click on “View”, “Toolbars” and select Reference Manager

To insert a citation click the “Insert Citation “

button.

Type a keyword or author’s name to search

on

A list of hits will appear. Click on the correct

reference(s) you want to cite and click on “Insert”

The selected reference has been inserted – note the brackets

When finished with the article it is time for the bibliography.Click on “Generate Bibliography” buttonSelect the output style depending on which journal this article is going to be published in.

Click on the appropriate journal.

The marked references change to numbers and a

reference list complying with a specific journal is added at

the end of your text
